2025-26 US Pairs Discussion - Milano-Bound By Way of Beijing & St. Louis

But I'm sure she wants to land the triple throw jumps! I'm sure everybody wants her to at this point!

This should be the Cinematic Pop cover, at least that's what comes up when I searched for it by the names of the singers.

Yes, but the two vocalists are both country singers.

It also says Cinematic Pop in the IG post linked above. Not that it makes it any better.

The Lorde emo version was done by Seguin/Biliodeaux back in the 17-18 Olympic season.

It’s amusing the hand-ringing being done over the Olympic qualifier spot. It’s US pairs! Of course it’s a crapshoot over who can land more than one triple jump and both throws.

Wouldn’t you want to send the most prepared team and then you can worry about who to send when it’s selection time?

And if the team sent doesn’t get the job done, then are they really deserving of a third spot?

I just looked at the entries for John Nicks. Chelsea Liu is listed with Martin Bedards. That was a shocker for me.

Watched Liu/Bedard and I truly dont understand the scoring? Was very, very overscored in my opinion

I thought they were very generous with the call being clean. But I was talking about the pumped up components.
Hard to tell from the angle of the SP video about the rotations on her 3s or the throw. Maybe a q could have been called on the 3s. I don't think they were unfairly scored - they look better together than he ever did with Martins the past few seasons. Hopefully we'll get some fan cam footage from a better angle for John Nicks tomorrow & Tuesday.
has there been any news on Plazas/Fernandez lately, like how their recovery has been going?
They're scheduled to compete at Kinoshita Group Cup this coming weekend, so we'll have a better idea then. They've been posting lots of training clips on IG lately.

Yeah on the video the salchow looked better but maybe I'm thinking of the long program one more.
I think he looks better than with Martins (faster mostly) but I still the components were way too high.
Looking at the protocol even stuff like the throw loop which had a weird check out got +2 and I don't think that was +2 territory.

That’s interesting… my Bestie here at the board said it was highly underscored…

As I was trying to watch this with the neutral mind, I said to myself, I say that’s gonna come in at 63 points, which is going to be better score than either one of them had with previous partners. They went clean, but as a new team, they’re not gonna get a gang busters score I told my Bestie.

Overscored though? No, not at all …they hit all elements and their side by side spin was phenomenal.

McFarland/ Andjoirn skated senior at Skate Detroit last month!

Yea I'm confused they are in the 6/7 range. Does this person think they should have been in the 5s at a local competition and skating relatively cleanly? lol
That's exactly the problem with figure skating though. And I mean I suppose components are OK, but the the GOE on elements were also high. That twist, throws, spin were not in +2, +3 territory.
Then we go out on international ice and wonder why we aren't doing well in scores.

They didn't get +2 or +3 across the board. I don't know why you are so negative on them. That was probably the best U.S. pair debut ever in recent years based on the video of the SP. They aren't first time pairs skaters and don't look like first time pairs skaters either.

Before anyone rages replies and says - it's on page 2, post 49...

I'm asking for a friend...

What's the citzenship status of the current pairs teams?

Who's got it for sure?

Who is a maybe?

Who is a not gonna happen in time?

Parkman and Efimova are "working on it" but honestly we have no idea if they are likely to get it in time. All other major players are citizens.

I have to concur. I just watched their SP from John Nicks and while I don't think they're quite at the same level for PCS as teams like KamO, EfiMit, ChanHowe, ShiNagy, McBPark or PlaFern, it's more because they're still such a new team than anything else. The 59.88 they scored today is more in line with what I'd expect for them internationally and that was with a fall from her on the SBS 3S, so their Golden West scores don't seem egregiously high.

Then again, I feel like the John Nicks scores are all a bit inflated based upon what the teams (both US and international) laid down, so who knows?
