Guessing we’ll see a skate off, probably at Lake Placid, between them, Wolfkostin/Tsarevski, and Morozov/Chen if they’re ready.

They made a good splash at Nats but I expect they're fighting for that TBD spot alongside Wolfkostin/Tsarevski. I'm rather bummed they didn't get an assignment right out of the gate since they're 25 on the SB list and I really thought they would, especially since the USFS isn't fully maxed out in dance - only 2 assignments at CoC.

Levito is a 1-3 seeded skater. She gets to pick her assignments so I’m not surprised she is there. I am not sure usfsa would have much of a choice if the other skaters in the top 3 picked the other events since they can’t go up against each other on the gp. As far as amber not getting selected I don’t think Bradie would have gotten a second initial assignment and usfsa gets to save an assignment for someone. Amber was always going to get two spots.

But Alysa, Ava, and Lindsay all got two spots. So, choosing Bradie for Skate America didn't cost any of those skaters a spot. It just got Bradie a second spot. Those four, along with Amber and Isabeau, all have two spots. It's really great for the American women.

In this case, it wouldn't matter because Amber was 10th at Worlds and not one of those 6 seeded skaters.

Even if she were, I'm fairly certain that host countries can opt to take more than one skater from a group tier (ie. Japan with their men in the past) but then it theoretically complicates both skaters earning maximum points and prize money, as well as a trip to the Final.

ETA- misread the post. Ignore the first part. As it relates to skaters from other nations and host events, I don't think there's ever been a case of a country opting to take two skaters from the 1-3 or 4-6 tier. And it makes sense, they want to keep the events as 'balanced' as possible.

Okay, looking over the Men's list with a bit more detail (I'll do separate posts for each discipline). I'm a bit surprised that the JSF didn't swing a 2nd spot for Yoshioka. He's the only man in the WS Top 24 without 2 on the initial assignments. I understand wanting to keep a TBD spot for NHK and chances are he will get a 2nd spot pretty fast since Japan is nowhere near maxed out with Men's spots (2 men at SCI & GPdF, just 1 at CoC).

Gogolev & Economides - clearly got the Bradie treatment from their feds - they were 28 & 32 respectively on the SB list and both Skate Canada & the FFSG gave them host spots in addition to their expected 1 assignment elsewhere.

She'll have to be doing well earlier than that. USFS usually makes the decision on the TBD spots at Champs Camp. Top contenders for SkAm TBD are the ones who are currently on the SB list without any GP assignments - Elyce Lin-Gracey 44, Starr Andrews 54, Clare Seo 63, and Sarah Everhardt 72.

Breaking down the Women's assignments - Gutmann & Stepcenko are rather lucky to be so highly ranked in the WS because they aren't even in the Top 75 of the SB list and, therefore, not even on the alternates list - they're 77 & 99 respectively. Another bit of a headscratcher with the JSF not managing to get Aoki two right out of the gate. She'll be hoping and praying for another Japanese woman to WD or to earn that NHK TBD spot because Japan is maxed out across the board in the Women's discipline with 3 at every event.

Tennell (as discussed already) and Serna both benefit from getting host spots and a 2nd spot elsewhere. Serna is particularly puzzling, TBH, since she's sitting at 41 on the SB list and there are several skaters ahead of her with no assignments initially. I'm a little surprised, also, that Jyrkinen wasn't given a Finlandia host spot straight away but I suppose the Finnish fed is waiting to see how her recovery goes.

There's a real opportunity here, IMO, for Samodelkina to wind up on the Alternates list with an early Challenger win - and if she skates well, I could see her getting selected ahead of a LOT of these alternates should a GP spot open up even though, technically, she should be put at the bottom of the list. Should be really interesting to see how everything plays out.

I expected them to go Senior. They've medaled at JW and it's not like they have much competition for the spot at Euros and Worlds. No reason not to start building their resume at Senior.

Surprised that Amber didn't get SkAm given that it's her hometown, but at least she had the opportunity to perform there for friends and family last year. Also surprised at Ilia and Yuma's choices, but there could be some advantages doing the back-to-backs too.

Okay, going through the Pairs assignments - lots of thoughts here...

It was pretty clear that at least one team who is on both the WS and SB Top 24 lists was probably going to wind up on the short end of the stick and come away with just 1 assignment on the initial list - sadly, it's Danilova/Tsiba. They make the most sense to be screwed since they're not from a host fed (PlaFern, KamOShea, ChanHowe, Les Kovs, LaurEth, PengWang) and haven't medaled at Euros each of the past two seasons (GhiAmbro). I am, though, giving a bit of a side eye to them being passed over for two GPs while Vaananen/Clerici get two right out of the gate. DanTsi are higher on the SB list (15) than VaanCler (20) but host fed trumps all else, so...

I fail to see why either the FFSG or JSF kept 1 TBD spot each. That's greedy and pointless and they should have just given those spots to other teams straight away.

Other quick notes -

Williams/Lewer - confirmation they're going senior instead of another JGP season - I'm not sure this is the best choice for them but, heck, they weren't even a host pick, so good for them! I'm sure ANL is glaring at them from his gym in LA, highly annoyed that they got a GP and Martins/Bedard didn't. (Sorry, couldn't resist the jab - you know I love ya, ANL!)

Sierova/Khobta - I think we knew they were staying junior but this also confirms it since they were guaranteed 1 GP as they were in the WS Top 24.

Caldara/Maglio - another Italian team bites the dust? They were WS 22 so they should have gotten 1 GP and they didn't.

Mokhovs - confirmation that if you're not on the USFS' ISP then your WS 24 ranking means nothing and you don't get a GP. Ouch.

I really hope Parkman gets his release from Georgia sooner rather than later. It would be a shame if McBeath/Parkman were kept out of the GP because the Georgian fed are being jerks. There's going to be some intense competition for the TBD spots at SkAm and SCI.

ETA - forgot to include Bombardier/Mimar on the Alternates List based on his score with McIntosh from last season - also, it was mentioned on the AnythingGOE YT live review of the GP assignments yesterday that Ariano Kent/Laliberte Laurent and Desrochers/Thrasher may be remaining junior internationally next season.

Okay, looking over the Ice Dance assignments...

Biggest question - where are Harris/Chan? They were WS 24 after the update last week so they should have been guaranteed 1 GP.

We knew Fradji/Forneaux are staying junior this upcoming season so no surprise they didn't get a GP. Both Tkachenko/Kiliakov and Grimm/Savitskiy's assignments have already been discussed. I'd be surprised if either get a 2nd assignment - there are never many spots that open up on the GP. No surprise that Pinchuk/Pogorielov are also moving up to seniors only as they're now the clear #1 Ukrainian team with Holubtsova/Bielobrov's split.

Domestic competition for the SkAm and GDdF host spots will be fierce - lots of good teams fighting it out. Keep an eagle eye out at LPIDI and French Masters this summer/early fall. Really bummed that Flores/Desyatov didn't get a GP on the initial list, especially since the USA didn't max out across the GPs (only 2 teams at CoC) but they're in good company - the only teams outside the ones who were guaranteed at least 1 got were all host picks.
