No moreso than it would have been fair to characterize all Americans as adulterers based on our elected President from 1993-2001. ;)
Or the one from 2017 to 2021, for that matter. :p

Is it fair to characterize a entire country based on their leadership? Would it be fair to characterize the United States based on their erected president from 2016-2020?
It would not if we would not get quote after quote after quote from the oh so persecuted Russians like Zhulin, Tatjana Tarasova et al. Silence would be enough. I dont even need protest against Putin. Just no „we are the best“ talk would be preferable at this point.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has published an order prohibiting the national teams of Ukraine from participating in competitions where athletes from russia or belarus are present

I think that's smart of them. This makes it very clear to the IOC (and other NGBs) that allowing Russians to compete is choosing Russia over Ukraine.

What do you mean “characterize”? This isn’t about character. Most Russian athletes actually represent the state, and by extension their president and his rotten worldview. Many of them are openly proud of it.

Big interview with Oksana. It's in ukrainian, but google-translate is ok

Some quates

We have to go! No one behind the scenes should rejoice in our absence. **** them!
:respec:

I will tell you a story. If you remember, in 2022 there was a scandal with Valieva, who was found to be doping at the Olympic Games. Plushenko himself always said: "It's not doping, it's ascorbic acid." All Russian sports have always sat on this, and now they are looking for legal alternative drugs. So, I, as an athlete who has never taken any such drugs, called my friend from Ukraine and asked: "Listen, why weren't we fed this shit?". And he told me: "Well, we didn't have any money, it's very expensive..."
:D

False. State does not equal government policy and you can’t know the true beliefs of any Russians because they live under brutal killer dictator

The Russian diaspora has sunk this argument like the Moskva.

How many have expressed condemnation of the Russian army's murdering, raping, torturing, beheading, child kidnappings, genocidal rhetoric, and daily bombardment of apartment buildings?

The Russian diaspora in the European Union and North America aren't living under a brutal dictator, yet few have bothered to condemn Putin's actions. Why have they organized pro-Russia rallies in the EU while Putin commits daily terrorist attacks on civilians in Ukraine?

Why are they so committed to whataboutism, distracting and deflecting attention away from what's happening in Ukraine?

The response of Russians outside Russia is not much different than what we see from Russians in Russia. Therefore, you can't claim that their behaviour in Russia is due to fear of a brutal dictator.

Don't forget that the Iranian diaspora, which despite being much smaller, has managed to send a loud and clear message that they condemn the Iranian regime.

Sometimes people in diasporas are more nationalist than the people in the original country. Like for instance Serbs outside of Serbia care far more about Kosovo than Serbs inside Serbia do. It’s pretty much consequence free. Though I do remember some Russian owned business in america putting Ukrainian flags out. I saw one a few towns over. It’s a supermarket in a largely Jewish town with a lot of Russian Jews and this business- Ukraine flags everywhere

Actually, I'm certainly curious how many Russian diaspora have condemned the regime, too, because I don't think the answer is too small compared to the ones who haven't, even if they haven't too loudly.

Caseyedwards actually made a decent point there, "Sometimes people in diasporas are more nationalist than the people in the original country."... You live closer to an evil regime, the more you see its horrors, and the more you get disillusioned.

Why hasn't he been banned yet?

Who needs Ukraine, no one is going there in the next ten years. I hope it will be sooner. I hope that it will already be called another country, that’s all

Can you provide examples of this disillusionment? After Putin launched the war, how many Russian skaters left Russia and expressed opposition to his actions?

Many in the Russian skating community, e.g. Krylova, Zhulin, Kostomarov, Dmitriev, etc. have lived abroad, know English, have money and connections. Many regularly go on vacations abroad. They're clearly not living in poverty.

If they're disillusioned but can't express their true feelings because of a brutal dictator, why didn't they try to move to a country where they can freely express their views?

They seem perfectly content to stay and listen to the genocidal rhetoric spouted daily on Russian TV.
