Prince Andrew

To add to what @mella said, as I understand it this was a public service partly to thank Philip for his service to the nation. So the Queen was there not only as the widow but also as the symbolic representative of the people. IMO that made it even more inappropriate to choose Andrew as her escort.

I read one story which suggested that the seating of the Royals was in order of precedence, but which also placed most of them on one side of the Queen, so that the TV cameras could shoot them without showing Andrew seated on her other side.

Perhaps she is under the deluded belief that his "settlement" means that business as usual can recommence. Complete disgrace to choose to be escorted by him when she has others sons and indeed grandsons.

I've never been pro or anti royal but every step over the last 2-3years pushes me closer towards the anti side. It's like they're on a different planet.

Totally agree he had every right to be there. But escorting the queen when there are other options? Just no.
I couldn't agree more, at this point fcuk her as well as the rest of the family. I've always been more on the side of scrapping the monarchy than keeping it but had some respect for the Queen but choosing Andrew to escort her to this is pretty much the final straw. To think so little of the people you represent to have that horrendous POS escort you when there are tens of other family members you could choose just beggars belief.

Exactly If its true that the rest of the family were strongly against it its also frankly a bit of a FU to Charles as well. I'm no fan of his but he's the one who will be left to sort out the Andrew mess longer term and the more the decisions now tend towards trying to bring him back onto the public stage the harder the sell will be for Charles. I've never put much store in the favourite son narrative but it seems like Andrew trumps Charles to the point that he trumps the monarchy as a whole... well i'm speechless

I have read in more than one place that the plan was for Andrew to ride with her in the car since they were both coming from Windsor, and then the Dean of Westminster would meet her at the door and escort her to her seat. When they got there Andrew ignored the Dean and escorted her in himself. So no one knew he was going to do it until it happened. I mean, the Queen has a long history of indulging and making allowances for Andrew, so I don't let her off the hook, but it does seem as if he pushed himself in here in a way that wasn't planned.

Well I had the unpleasant sensation yesterday of running into a group of women on the internet who were huge "fans of Andrew." They're pretty much exactly who you'd expect them to be.
I don't know who I'd expect them to be, because I'd never have imagined that he would have fans!

@MLIS has a point. The Queen has always favored/indulged Andrew. He's her favorite. She's demurred about it in interviews, but he's the child of her marriage reconciliation and she loves him best, faults and all.

With the (rightful) criticism being put out over Andrew being the one to escort the Queen, I'm assuming we can expect another negative 'revelation' about Meghan and Harry any day now...
Actually I'm glad not to hear anything new about them. They have already said they're not returning to the BRF.

The rumour is he was born after trouble in the Queen and Prince Philip’s marriage, so to her he is the symbol of their reconciliation. He also was born after she had come to the throne and settled in, so she had more time to enjoy being a parent, when Charles and Anne were small she was in the early years of her marriage, travelling constantly, and dealing with her father’s death and becoming queen. And sometimes parents just have favourites, and there’s no rhyme or reason. Sometimes it’s no big deal, and sometimes it can sour other relationships or become toxic in the family.

Does Andrew not have his own Insta? Or is he not supposed to post on any social media.
It got taken down, I'm not sure why he used it but it was in poor taste as he used HRH to sign off. Also, something about not having permission to share that (sensitive content?).

I shouldn't laugh. I hope he makes a full recovery. If he really is sick.

Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's usually small stuff, such as libel suits, Covid-19, and criminal prosecutions.

Covid sucks, and as much as I don't like him, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone, even him. It was an amazing Jubilee and I hope he recovers soon. It was amazing seeing the Queen and how loved she is by everyone from her family to her country.

Whether or not he had Covid, I don't know or care (I don't however want him to have a severe case).

I do think Charles laid down the law and said you won't spoil Mummy's celebration, you will not attend or be the center of speculation. You made your bed (so to speak), and you will not attend.

Covid does provide a lot of cover. No one would fault him for not being there - after he is isolating.
