A new blog post is ready. Back to India with this one. I think it's the only place in the world where a river is worshipped as a goddess. The activity of a wide range of devotees on her banks was a rich and complex thing to witness. Spectacular really.

Thanks so much Kedrin. The Ganga culture is quite amazing, and very deeply entrenched for at least part of the population. When we were in Cyprus I learned about the ancient cult of Aphrodite, who was one of the Greek goddesses. People specifically worshipped Aphrodite as opposed to a general worship of the whole Greek pantheon. I was reminded of that here - some Hindus focus their devotion on Ganga whereas others may focus on Shiva or Krishna, and each is its own culture within the larger religion. Every day walking along the river was a revelation. We never knew what we'd see next.

:lol: It worked! I couldn't believe the whole cult of Aphrodite - the way women were treated! And the men marrying their daughters. And yeah, the mosaics are quite amazing.
 
Your photos are alwasy good- but these were particularly amazing! Vancouver Island- another place I need to get to.
 
A new blog post is ready. This one is about last summer's travels to beautiful Vancouver Island. Sadly we couldn't go this year of course, so it's nice to relive memories from last year. I'm so lucky this is the worst thing I can think of to complain about. Anyway here it is - some adventuring with friends on Vancouver Island.

Just to be picky, it is Georgia STRAIT and Juan de Fuca STRAIT. Meaning a narrowing of the water.
Georgia STRAIGHT is the Vancouver newspaper, once very avant-garde, whose title is a play on the name Georgia STRAIT.
Almost as confusing as sorting out Vancouver, Victoria and Vancouver Island.
Like you, I love the term Salish Sea.
