NHL Seattle, which has been trying to get an NHL franchise back to Seattle -- the Seattle Metropolitans won the Stanley Cup in 1917 -- announced a new, three-rink practice facility planned for October 2020 in Northgate, which is in north Seattle with a big mall, a bus hub, and what will be a light rail terminus, ETA 2021.

Key Arena is being rebuilt around the landmark roof and will be the venue for the team, which, according to this article, is being recommended by the NHL executive committee to be granted partly based on the plans for the state-of-the-art practice facility.

The main rink will contain seating and viewing for 1,000 fans, while the two others will have room for an additional 400. Beyond the expected NHL team using the main rink about four hours for daily practice, the new ice sheets will be used to stage tournaments and games by amateur hockey groups as well as figure-skating clubs and other ice events.

Not big enough for a GP or Nationals -- that would have to be Key Arena, if the new Seattle team is on the road -- but big enough for Regionals :cheer2: and Sectionals :cheer2: And eventually accessible by light rail!

Also a possible practice facility for nationals or worlds!

Unfortunately, a bus ride in I-5 traffic if they're heading to the Arena: our transportation planners, in their infinite wisdom, have planned no light rail to the cultural and recreational center of Seattle where Key Arena is located, one of the worst places for traffic and parking in the city . If they're going back to downtown hotels, though, they could take light rail back and forth, and then take the Monorail to Key Arena. Maybe by then, the Monorail will be integrated into the transit system, and ORCA cards for everyone!
