That was amazing, just to be able to watch online. On one YouTube live channel, over 12,000 people were watching. On the channel where Akiko Suzuki was hosting, there were about 3500 people watching.

There was a newscast showing a young Chinese woman with her Seimei outfit. It wasn't the same fan who was televised crying last fall. I was kind of worried for Yuzuru's safety since the guards walking along didn't appear to have guns. But then again, this is in Japan. Yuzuru looked cheerful and gracious as always. What a thrilling way for his hometown to receive him!

Yep. And when I visit I never even consider littering. It doesn't feel right (not that I ever litter). My first time there I had a hard time finding a trash can and entered an establishment looking for one. Someone working there just took it for me. Like they had a secret place :grope:

There are many fans from other countries (as reports from the facebook group and twitter), including my country, went to this parade. Many fans there were not Japanese. I was kinda worried since some people I know do not have the habit of cleaning the trash after they finished but I am glad it turned out so well.

The Philadelphia police carry guns. As far as I know, they carried them during the Eagles Super Bowl victory parade. With gazillions of people there.

Which even as the complete lefty that some posters would have me, I’m glad they did. Now, guards would not be expected *in addition* to police, I would agree.

I’m glad Yuzu had such a great time and grand parade:respec:

Yuuga Shitara-san was a high school classmate with Yuzuru at Tohoku high. At the parade, he held up his graduation album and yelled "YUZURU!!!" And Yuzuru acknowledged him with an "oh" and he looked like he was saying "Tohoku?"
Shitara Yuuga said: "(Yuzuru) was amazing at skating, but besides that, he was a good person and liked by everyone around him. We'd ask him to do quads and stuff so he'd do them in the hallway."

Very true! Yuzu has been so good for the sport. He enjoys fans across the globe, has every title a skater dreams of and is still planning to move ahead and continue growing. How incredibly fortunate and wonderful for Hanyu fans! ?

Yuzuru has donated his prize money for the Olympic gold to Miyagi prefecture (5 million yen) and Sendai city (5 million yen).

Are guards not people? Ie they are not members of a police force and therefore are just regular people. Regular people in Japan are severely restricted from owning guns because of Japan’s gun control laws.

By the way, Japanese police do carry guns, but rarely need to use them. There were six shots fired by police nationwide in 2015 (that’s in a country of 126 million people).

I am not arguing over gun laws. I think the USA has way too many guns and could live without (pun intended) the fetishization of guns.

I also have no doubt that the Japanese are more civilized (I am not being snarky) and don’t need as many guns

But Eagles fans? (the avatar I now always point to when someone says well, you’re just a Jason fan clutching her pearls and don’t understand sport sport sport). The ones that throw icy snowballs at Santa? Full beer cans at opposing fans? And, literally, a million Eagles fans???

Yes, our police needed guns at a sports parade.:cool:
