Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

France has no judge in the FD but we are stuck with P/C's biggest fan club member Sharon Rodgers.

Tanith said last night that V/M have owned the practices all week.

That’s what I’m saying she’s favoring them. She made comments like not enjoying the radio music with added beats sped up or slowed down and I believe that there were a couple more comments that weren’t so favorable to P/C

last year he said "PC have an arrogance to them while VM are the people ice dancers. that emotion so raugh so easy to understand" so...
Many years ago, they called that sort of comment "damning with faint praise." He's such a snot, bless.

Oh god please no. I love Tracy Wilson, she's a thoroughly decent human, but her commentary has become so rote and repetitive.

Back in her early days she was pretty honest and informative. Back in B/k days I liked her because she explained a lot of reasons to me why they weren’t winning

I think we'll know whether V/M have a chance at gold after P/C get their scores. Based on the GOEs and PCS scores that P/C have been getting all season, I think if P/C get all level 4s, then it's game over. By my calculation, V/M have to get at least one level higher on one of the higher scoring elements (i.e., step sequence) with other levels being equal to have a chance. I would love to be proven wrong, of course.

I can't believe we're here and this is it. I really like the new costume for Tessa. Here's hoping they have a clean skate...I don't think I'll be able to breathe until they are finished. I'm already incredibly nervous for them...I think I need to open a bottle of wine to get through this. As always, whatever happens, it's been really like to share this with all of you in this thread.

I don't agree. We don't have a comparison with VM's revamped version. The scores at the TE were very low (look at how the PCS went up from the TE sd to the IE sd) they didn't want to hand out WR. Also the score PC set at EC it's not really international, euroflation you know? They can't afford to loose any level to PC though or it's over. otherwise the margin they have can be enough. I hate to say this but it could even come down to who's the team who execute a Ch element better

I fully expect USA judge Rogers will mark V/M fourth behind the two American dance teams. I wonder if she projects some personal disappointment or something onto V/M, because her scoring is so off.

No top Chinese or Polish ladies, so no political exchanges in theory. :)

I love Dubreuil Lauzon, but I'm rooting for ShibSibs for bronze....

Well, I hope you're right.

Ugh Rogers is still in the panel..of course she is..

Could be worse I guess..no idea how the new judges will side but I am still not holding out much hope, seems like most think the FD of P&C will beat them on PCS large enough to make it not even matter what V&M do..

So help me god if V&M have to go out there & skate their final program under the shadow of a new WR score by the French & basically not even having a chance..I will wish they had not even come back..

If everyone goes clean and she puts them 4th, that's grounds for investigation it would be such blatantly terrible judging.

My commentators will not stop gushing about how P/C are so innovative because they've led the way for this new lyrical style. Did I just hallucinate Mahler? Has lyrical not been a thing since like...ever?

Just my opinion. She was a brilliant technical skater and very musical. Her look just wasn’t my cup of tea.
But she did light the world on fire with her skating. She had to execute Christopher Dean's amazing, innovative choreography. Let's leave her be, shall we?

Yes that’s what I said. A brilliant technical skater.
Who you said upthread didn't set the world on fire with her skating. Snotting at Jayne Torvill is gratuitous; let's leave off, eh? In that vein I won't comment further on this.

as if lyrical never came about before p/c came on the scene. what p/c are doing to lyrical is really watering down the level of technical difficulty in free dances, hence the long "glides." it may look "modern" to some people, but it's really more about watering down the difficulty level of varied and EVENLY DISTRIBUTED edgework.

Talking to my mom today & I made a comment & she said oh no you could be right..maybe I am being overly paranoid but what does everyone think about this reasoning..

I said that I think with V&M retiring soon..& not competing anymore after these games, maybe the judges do NOT want to give the Gold to them for that exact reason..maybe they want the OLY Gold medalists to be still competing for several years to come & to actually have the ones who win the Olympic gold be still around going to all the events & World championships..if V&M win then retire that means the reigning Gold medal champs will be gone..from competitive comps..

I have decided to just enjoy V&M's FINAL skate no matter what. Let's keep this thread positive (and about V&M only) and send them positive vibes. 20/20/20

I would very happy if they skated as well as they did at Nationals.

You’re right, I didn’t word it well. My point was that Chris was THE standout. She was great, but to me he was the one you really noticed.

It doesn’t look like his choreography. He apparently chose the music and has his name on it. I actually question how much of it he even did. I suspect it’s more for political reasons that he’s listed.

From the horse's mouth:

An ice dance legend had a major hand in the concept for their short. 1984 Olympic champion Christopher Dean travelled to their training base in Montreal and choreographed the routine for them.

“We didn’t know him at all before,” Papadakis said. “He’s such an important celebrity in the skating world that we were shy in the beginning. We obviously discovered he was a great choreographer and it was amazing working with him. He was also a great person and very fun.”

The initial idea of using Ed Sheeran for the short actually came from Dean himself who was equally effusive in his praise for the French team after working with them.

“I picked all the SD music and put it together,” Dean explained. “The music was a current huge hit around the world and felt young and right for them.

“We basically constructed the first draft in about six hours in total. They were very easy to work with and immediately translated my ideas into steps.”

Well it didn’t get them anywhere in 2014 did it? So they had no choice but to go this way.

Also Jayne Torvill didn’t exactly light the world on fire with her skating. That team was more about Chris and the amazing, innovative choreography. Jayne always had a bit of a frumpy look to her.

I guess that must be why nobody remembers her at all.
