Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

Um, how much credibility do we give TSL's sources? Because given what they've just said, I think we're on the brink of Salt Lake City 2.0

Good luck Tessa and Scott. Leave them in no doubt.

No doubt he’s got good sources. He just had Meagan Duhamel on his show for 2 hours! In fact, she is probably his source.

Or Bruno Marcotte who Dave said he was texting with during the mens event.

I thought it was interesting in the Duhamel interview that she said the rumour going around was the the large block of obnoxious Russian fans in two different areas of the arena were sent there/tickets sponsored by Putin. And I loved that she turned and gave them a fist pump during the flower ceremony.

Bruno is back home though and seems out of the loop. Dave was also pushing the rumor from what he claimed were Canadian sources that either P/C or V/M was going to skip the GPF, and we know how that ended up.

That was different. It was Kurt Browning doing a bald prediction about GPF and people speculating on that. Dave never said he had other sources, he was just speculating on what KB said.

Can't watch live because it'll be the early hours of Monday morning and I don't need the extra anxiety.

Speaking all level fours into existence.

Bruno could have heard this while still in PC after the pairs final. It was over mid afternoon.

I wish for them 2 perfect skates so they have no regrets. I wish for them moments of pure joy in the midst of their programs so they can take it all in. I'll be crying the entire time anyway knowing these are their last 2 competitive skates. I wish them peace, the peace that comes from knowing they gave it their all and left nothing on the table.

I can't believe it. I'll go to bed now to get up in the middle of the night to watch their second to last competitive skate. I'm close to tears already. I wish for them a SD that they can enjoy while they skate and which makes them blissfully happy and proud afterwards. It doesn't matter what will happen, I'll be proud of them anyway and I hope they know that fans from all over the world have their back and will cheer them on.

it's just better. Everyone is going to pay attention now. The problem is Russia is not just Russia. Did you see how BS were scored in the TE compared to the Shibs even without a russian or french judge on the panel?
I hope hope hope to see USFSA and SC come together because the last thing I wanna see is PC taking gold and BS taking bronze. That's my nightmere.

Yes, the reason Russia is so powerful politically is that the former USSR countries will generally vote with them. P/C have Russia on their side, which gives them a big advantage.

I kind of have to laugh at the naiveté of fans who think whoever skates best will win. Politics and narrative are a huge part of ice dance. Every federation has to work the politics, it's part of the sport. The teams still need to skate, and I like the quote from V/M about daring the judges to put you second, but ultimately it's only part of the equation.

Yes I highly doubt that Russians are running around threatening revenge. It’s pretty easy to use the word “sources”. Unless there is a replica of the same situation as SLC where a judge admitted she cheated (that will never happen again) this all comes off as whining.

True, they would be beating themselves by making it so obvious & telling people they are planning "revenge"

Thanks to everyone who's been posting links to practice videos. I thought it was pretty charming and heartening to see the different teams applauding each other on the ice when they execute elements, or taking their bows together. Having only watched ice dance practices at one international event, my knowledge is limited, but there was definitely nothing like that at the event I attended. Is it common?

This is truly sad..so forget all the hard work & hours of practice? If skaters thought like this why even bother being a figure skater?

So I heard that the judges are chosen less an hour before the event starts?
Wow so imagine if we don't get a Canadian judge on the panel? We are most def screwed then!!

9 judges are drown for the SD then 5 out of those 9 are gonna be replaced for the FD with 5 left out of the SD panel. I just hope we get the canadian twice and rus and french just once. But again russia have lots of allyes

Well, it's not like their skating has zero impact on the scores, just nowhere near 100%. I have a lot of respect for all ice dance competitors, it's really tough to know so much of it is out of your hands.

Ice dance has no business being an Olympic sport but I would hate to take away that experience from the skaters. And the Olympics are a great showcase of ice dance to the world, it's been fun to see audiences really respond to it, and hopefully some will keep following post-Olympics.

Wow how do they decide what judges are replaced for the FD tomorrow?

There's a media advisory that covers all of this.
https://www.pyeongchang2018.com/en/...e-skating/media-information-report-n1314-.htm

"For the second segment of the event, the four judges not drawn for the first segment will automatically be assigned to be in the panel of nine judges for the second segment and all other judges serving already in the first segment will participate in the draw to complete the panel of nine judges for the second segment. Out of the nine judges drawn for each segment, the highest and lowest scores are deleted and the average will be taken from the remainder (trimmed mean)."

I found it by googling:
ice dance judges draw olympics

Well with how things are going..the behind the scenes drama..the sucky draw pick of skating ahead of P&C, I have a bad feeling we won't even get a Canadian judge on the panel..& if that happens well I give up..:wall:

You guys are going to drive yourselves crazy. It is what it is. Scott and Tessa know what they're up against and still they look confident and happy. If it doesn't turn out the way we hope just know they are by far the best ice dancers in the world. We know that and I hope they do as well. That is all.

On another note, how nice was it that Charlie White used V/M to teach the choctaw? Four years later, he’s generous enough to shine a spotlight V/M’s way. Other people might have still had residual competitiveness and not want to compliment their main rivals even years later. Or he could have chosen to show an American team. He didn’t.

yes! that was very gracious of him to acknowledge how v/m's execution is TEXTBOOK! he could've very well shown the shibs since, yes, they're american. but then again, v/m won the TE gold, so i think it only comes with that territory to where the gold medallists are shown as examples

There is nothing to be achieved by freaking out over the draw. Best to just get some air, maybe do some deep breathing, and then settle in for some serious drinking. :40beers:
