Nathan has a realistic shot a medal, even a gold medal. Adam doesn’t.
Ice is slippery. Anything can happen. If the tops contenders zamboni throughout the program like Sochi, Adam might just sneak in there with a clean skate as he said in one of the promos.

The problem with this switching from NBCSN to NBC seems to be with the middle gps or pennultimate group. Last night (Pairs final), NBCSN showed every pair in the first 2 Groups. Then NBC took over with Group 3 (penultimate) and chacked Marchei/Hotarek and Zabiiako/Enbert!!!!!

Why doesn’t the main NBC channel just give it up and let NBCSN show all but the very last group?

Only time will tell if we get to see ALL the performances between the 2 networks (the Italians M/H were chacked by NBC for the short and free). The online stream should have ALL the skates. For those stuck with broadcast TV, NBCSN is the safest bet tonight in the US. If you’re recording, record BOTH the 7:00 show AND the 11:00 show. The event doesn’t end until 12:30.

My online cable guide had the skating on NBCSN (too many letters - from now on can know what "SN" means?) till 10:15. But they switched over to the hockey game at 10:00. They couldn't schedule the hockey game for 20 minutes later?

I wish I would have recorded the first half hour of the 8:00 SN show. I knew the skating wasn't going to start till 8:30, but I just happened to keep it on after I watched the Olympic Ice show that I was recording anyway too and got to see the Katia and Sergei story. This Is Us doesn't make me cry. That did. And Tanith wiping her eyes. And Scott talking. Geez. I held my breath the whole time and had a death grip on my throw. I wish I would have known so I would have recorded that half hour to watch again.:wuzrobbed

Editing - Sent this and then saw another post. Add half an hour to the end of your recording time! Even last night went a few minutes over.

@Susan1 NBCSN stands for NBC Sports Network. Per Johnny Weir’s tweet, most of the skating will be there tonight. See my post just above yours.

WOWEE!!!! Huge surprise from the NBC networks: the ENTIRE field of 30 Men’s SPs shown tonight on NBCSN!!!! No frustration! ...well, the first skater, Montoya, joined about one minute into his program...but....

THANK YOU, NBCSN. Now this is how to telecast an Olympics figure skating night!!! Tara, Johnny & Terry (and Andrea) exceeded themselves. The US tv is treating skating fans like first/class citizens. Please do this from here on out. IT WAS GREAT! DREAMS COME TRUE!!!!!!!!

Sorry I made a typo! I meant that if we type SN we know that it is NBCSN because that is too many letters to type every time.
the ENTIRE field of 30 Men’s SPs shown tonight on NBCSN!!!!
That's what was so great about 4 years ago that we are missing this year. Terry kept saying they were going to show every skater. However, on the t.v. schedule, there is a hockey game shown at 10:10 tonight. And we have to switch over to NBC again. Don't they realize that the long programs are what determines the medal? That's what figure skating fans want to see - all 24 men. If I have to sit through other stuff, I will fall asleep. I guess I'll have to record it (adding half an hour at the end).

They may surprise us yet, @Susan1 . The pattern has been that we learn their intentions (what they will show, when & which channels) during Olympic Ice. So we have to listen carefully during the Olympic Ice that precedes the actual skating.

Last night both NBC and NBCSN showed the final flight of Men...as I flipped over to Big NBC after the live coverage...they were at Shoma Uno, so not exactly live.

Tonight may be the same deal. I hope so because tonight is Lindsey Vonn Night, so Big NBC will likely be obsessed with her through the broadcast and not give a rusty hoot for USA male figure skaters because Nathan is out of it. In sum, I suspect that Big NBC will give us this:

Group 1 NOBODY...but we’ll see all 6 on NBCSN, I hope!

Group 2 only Nathan on NBC; all on NBCSN, I hope.

- Zamboni break -

Group 3 - I predict that NBC will join the skating with the 3rd guy (Zhou)...so Hendricks and Messing will be chacked from all US tv unless we get the glorious gift of simultaneous NBCSN coverage again. Hopefully NBC will stick with the rest of Gp 3 through that group’s final skater, Rippon...but NBC might chack Kolyada and/or Brezina to show Rippon fluff, latest Andrea interviews, etc. just before Rippon skates...that’s how we missed Bychenko in the Team Event because they chose to air Chen fluff just before Chen skated. (If Brezina is chacked, I’ll be really, really mad! Just sayin’.)

Group 4 - All six shown, I bet. They’d better show all six, as any of the six can medal!!!!! However, there are no US guys in this group...and...

If Lindsey Vonn wins her event earlier in the day, then all bets are off, as it will be TOTAL NVC (National Vonn Corporation) for the rest of the night.

people were that upset about just the short programs, I wonder if that will make a difference for tonight's broadcast.
Probably not. We sat there and talked about how someone was having to make a decision on the fly as both the skiing and the skating were live and going on at the same time. We all said they were going to have to take a lot of heat no matter what their decision was. I wouldn't want to have to make that decision.

But it's more stressful for us! :-)

This timeline they established for Nathan tonight is bizarre. Like, they showed Nathan in costume and then showed him warming up in other clothes. Then they interviewed him in costume followed by showing him arriving with some language implying that arrival was live. If it's not live we don't need to see it - especially when it meant missing some happy Kiss and Cry reactions I really wanted to see.

Bravo again, NBCSN and NBC for traditional tv! Every single skater shown, with the first three groups on NBCSN and the final flight on NBC. Thank you! I hope that you might do the same with Ladies and Dance.

Team event & Pairs were aberrations.

Loving Olympic Ice, too.

Really? I had NBCSN on till 10 and they switched over to something else (I forget). They didn't say they were going to show more figure skating, so I switched over to NBC and they were showing skiing, so I recorded it till 12:30. When I went to watch this morning, they started Adam Rippon at 11:00.

So, for the ladies free, right now, the cable guide has NBCSN showing a REPLAY of curling at 10:10. Do you think they will actually carry the figure skating on past that?

Where can I see Vincent Zhou's program on my computer? Maybe they can show him on Olympic Ice tonight. Thanks.

@Susan1 I know it’s frustrating, but when we say that NBCSN may show everyone, we mean it. Both cut away during the ice makes. Also, the shows aren’t starting and ending at the same time the events end. Last night, NBCSN was live through the penultimate group. NBC showed replays of Chen, Zhou and Rippon and didn’t go live until the last group.

Although I watch the stream, I set up my recordings as follows:
- NBCSN starting with the Olympic Ice show and continuing until the event end time + 30 minutes
- NBC Primetime starting at 8:00 Eastern and ending at the event end time + 30 minutes
Don’t even look at the program guide labels. Record by TIME.

So, for tomorrow night’s dance, you would need:
- the NBCSN show that starts at 7:00 Eastern and is labeled Figure Skating
- the NBCSN show that starts at 10:15 Eastern and is labeled Freestyle Skiing
- NBC Primetime that starts at 8:00 Eastern then add enough time to record continuously until 12:15 am Eastern.

Yeah, I know! I'm not going by event times, but what it says on the cable guide. It has said the skating was till 10:10 or 10:15, but ended at 10 p.m. (resurfacing). The short programs come back till the end. Last night when he started showing the hockey at 10, I thought they were going to continue showing the hockey. If he would have said we'd get back to figure skating or whatever, I would have stayed.

I recorded NBC from 10 to 1 a.m. just in case. The first hour was FFing through skiing, then some skating, then more FFing through skiing, then they did show the final group without commercials (I don't know why I'm telling you this - you saw it!), ending 15 minutes past the time listed, so I got it. I was scared that they were going to stop for the local news listed at midnight, but they only did that after the men's short was over the night before.

It's the free skates that are causing the problem of timing. But I'll stay on NBCSN all night now, until they say you have to go to NBC! And I'll add an hour to the DVR past what it says. I can't stay awake that late (on purpose).

I've got Olympic Ice at 7 p.m. all recorded separately each day, including tonight, when there is no skating on afterwards.

Exhausting!

Cable guides can be as many as 10 days old. NEVER go by the guide if you know the actual start/end times.

A lot of people don't get NBCSN. Last night and the night before, tons of people were on twitter saying they were watching NBC and figure skating hadn't come on. Directed to NBCSN, they didn't have it. Then directed to NBCSN's stream, some said they don't have cable. Many people were upset that they couldn't see the NBC coverage of skating until the last groups. (I suppose NBC used to ONLY show the last groups anyway, but when people knew there were other skaters that they were missing, they weren't happy.)

Then last night, NBCSN coverage abruptly stopped at 10 and they switched to hockey. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I don't remember anyone telling viewers to switch over to NBC to continue watching skating. Very weird. I think people figured it out, but still...weird.

I do not think this is an NBC problem. Everyone has trouble finding the correct sport on the correct channel. Canadians are having trouble what channel is showing all the skating that one night. It may be a first for Americans who never before had an option to watch the early groups. Although I think CBS did that back in 1998. Viewers just have to be more proactive.

They (Terry) said that they were switching to NBC for the final group.

Yes, they did. At 10pm there was a zamboni break. Group 3 followed, in full. So NBCSN showed all 3 groups - total 18 skaters - before NBC showed Group 4 (final 6 skaters).

CBS did that throughout the 1990s, beginning in 1992. Early skaters were shown on Turner (TBS). I had to be super proactive in order to videotape all skaters. Sochi 2014 was the only relaxing year, with all Skating shown live, on one channel, in the correct order with minimal commercials. In 2014, I completely avoided the prime time version with Scott & Sandra because I stayed home to watch & record the live NBCSN version hosted by Tara & Johnny, cutting out the ads and fluff.

That would be why he said final group :)

Right. But Susan alluded above to the switch happening at 10pm, which was not correct. Folks just have to stay awake and watch the show, not program to record it and expect everything to be perfect. I drink strong espresso after dinner so that I be alert.
