Survivor Season 35 Heroes vs Healers vs Hustlers starts 9/27/17

Lauren had it with her but she said she didn’t and then decided to not use it because if she did nobody would ever believe her again (or something like that - saw it in an interview somewhere but sadly don’t have a link).

Lauren has said in all her interviews (one of which I linked above) that she had it, but I think in the end she didn't think she needed it and also didn't want to reveal that she had lied by then using it.

Much has been made of her two mistakes in this last ep, but it's worth remembering that her alliance (Ashley, Devon) did not turn on her, and the opposing alliance (Chrissy, Ryan) did not target her either. It was only Ben's surprise idol and his choice of her that eliminated her from the game, which was pretty much beyond her control, especially since she had made efforts and been aligned with Ben throughout the game. What more could she have done? The advantage and her half idol were useless in the context of what actually happened.

In reading a variety of exit interviews, it does get annoying that they all ask the same things. With Lauren it's been about the advantage and the half idol, and her sister, with little else about the rest of her game, which IMO was quite well played.

Meh. That's all I got for tonight's episode. Nice editing as I wasn't sure Ben had that Idol or not (would have liked to seen how he found it with everyone right there by the camp watching him though; are there edited clips of it out there somewhere if it never aired on the show?), and then when he pulled it out I thought it was a Fake at first. I hope he doesn't win. I don't like him. :P I'm still pulling for Ryan and I'd be okay with a Devon win.

Devon’s getting sloppy and arrogant too. Maybe he made too big of a move today and for the second week I’m still getting the Chrissy is going to win vibe. Never saw it coming (day three?!) but she’s playing hard, winning challenges, and letting everyone else fall apart while she has all of these plans in her head.

I can see her (and Ryan) keeping Ben around and into the final three and realizing Devon may be the bigger threat.

It's day 36 for them, no? No more time for the subtleties I think - several of them at least are clearly building their jury cases.

Chrissy's is looking good in that she's had a high level of control/influence throughout the game (very clearly illustrated to the jury when Jeff talked about the choice of Ryan over Ashley at the reward, then Ashley's demise over Ryan or Mike), and with two immunity challenges now, has that on her resume too. For jurors like JP and Cole, that's going to count.

However, the people who like her most may be sitting right next to her at the final rather than on the jury advocating for her, so we'll see. Also, several of them have commented in interviews that Chrissy doesn't like women - and there she is in final 5 with 4 men. The jury is also mostly male - comments have been made by fans that Chrissy got rid of them all pre jury on purpose, but that's just theorizing. One wonders though if it's true, and if so if it will backfire when a mostly male jury goes to hand a million dollars to someone who outplayed each of them.

[fun fact - trolling around social media it appears that Ali, Jessica, Roark and Desi have become besties since filming last April/May]

Looks like Ryan will be at the end since no one is targetting him, but I don't think he's got enough of a case. While his strategy has been very good and he has strong alliances, they might very well be with him at the end and thus they become opponents instead of useful allies. Plus, word is that he contributed zero around camp - didn't even attempt to fish, crack a coconut, cook rice or tend the fire. If it's true, that kind of work ethic does not wash with people who were categorized as Heroes and Healers, or Lauren, who now make up the majority of the jury.

Devon's actions this ep puzzled me until I remembered his early and strong alliance with Ryan. Much as Ashley would be a great one to take to the final as I can't imagine she'd get any votes, Ryan is the one who is more likely to get Devon there and he might feel confident he's got the better resume - which I think he does.

I know they've all been worried about the Marine factor, but I'm surprised we're not getting more of what a threat Mike is because everyone loves him, and he has a great "least likely" to "wow he's really surprising us with his abilities" story that could contribute to a win.

Hard to predict F3 since much depends on immunity now, but my money's on Devon for the win. And I'd be happy with that.

I told DH last night that I thought the final three would be Devon, Ryan and Chrissy, and that Devon would win and Chrissy would get no votes. Next week we will see if my power of prediction is correct.

I think Mike is going to slip in there and be at final tribal, and I'd be okay with that.

I could see Devon, Chrissy and Mike as well - but I suspect Mike is too well liked to take to the end, and it’s unlikely he will win immunity.

This season is all about the TCs - they are so entertaining.
I am disliking Chrissy more and more - she is so smug. Her outrage at Ben during TC - was over the top.
Glad Ashley is gone - as she was the only goat. The rest are playing.
Ryan - bummed to hear about him doing nothing in camp - he has strategy - but I can see him now not winning and he may be seen as a goat now. Also I just can't look at how skinny he is.

Immunity Challenge - I do like how the lead changed several times and many were in contention.
Nice at this point to not have the person that does not even try as in some previous seasons.

As this season goes on, there is on thing that occurred early on (with 2 parts) that IMHO is driving what is going on now.
First episode when Ryan gives Chrissy the advantage. Then with Ryan and Chrissy on the same tribe - and Ryan siding with Chrissy over Aly - I think those events are why we are where we are now. Ryan enabled Chrissy to have power and get the ladies out.
I do hope they address that in the FTC and live show how Chrissy does not like women. I assume Chrissy will say she was getting the smarter people out that happened to be female - but Jessica??
Chrissy's smugness is getting old. Maybe the guys will decide to vote her out! That would be a great blindside - as I do believe Chrissy would just not believe it.

Ben - I was really liking you, but now, not so much. Is this the first time an idol was played and the discovery of it was not previously shown to us? I was not sure when Ben first pulled it out that it was not the one he made.
I do wish he had not shown the HII until the vote was to be revealed - and he could have voted out whom he wanted with 1 vote again.

Once again I agree with just about everything you say @smurfy. You're right it's good to have a final group of players who are all playing, and definitely Ryan's move with Chrissy was a pivotal moment in the game - which also suggests that we will see more of this kind of advantage/power in future.

As for Ben's idol, I assumed he'd find it - easy enough to roll around trying to get comfortable on the bamboo slats and fiddling around for it. What was interesting though is that the timing was right before TC - we don't usually get a more open scene like that where we hear them talking about it "almost being time" - usually they just come back from commercial and there they are. There were also snatches of conversation around the fire about food that I found  because we always hear from the Survivors that they spend hours talking about food, but of course they never waste time showing it. I guess because Ben found it so last minute there was little chance to film the usual way, so for once we got what was as close to live feeds as we'll ever get.

I also liked that he played it in advance - I think that's another Survivor first? And with so few choices left, saying out loud who you were going to vote and inviting others to "join me back at camp" was the kind of bold move that may have impressed the jury. Certainly the ones who are real fans of the game likely enjoyed it :)

The moment I've been waiting for is when someone finds an idol off camera and tells no one, totally blindsiding not only the other players, but Jeff and the crew too. I seriously almost wonder if they've made players reenact the moment in the past when they've missed it, and if there may even be a rule about it.

First of Ashley's exit interviews - mostly about her trust of Devon and mistakes not working closer with Ben or Chrissy, and she also confirms that everyone loved Mike, and Ryan did nothing at camp. She said he was underestimated because he was in Chrissy's shadow and couldn't win challenges, but then late in the game she realized that while they were all worn out, he was still playing. Also said she liked Chrissy, but knew that others didn't.

Is this the first time an idol was played and the discovery of it was not previously shown to us?

I'm pretty sure Amanda on Fans vs. Favorites was a similar editing. She had a clue on Exile Island, which was that the idol was hidden under the flag at camp. She had Parvati run interference for her at camp and they showed her digging, but they never showed whether she actually found the idol or not.

I get that the editing wants to leave suspense of who is voted out, but I'm a little  as to why either Ben or Devon voted out Ashley over Mike. Ashley is a great goat to take to the end, whereas Mike is well-liked. I guess the only thing is that it might have been clear that the other three were voting that way to begin with and Devon would have been in a rock-picking scenario, but Ben didn't really have anything to lose.

I do wish he had not shown the HII until the vote was to be revealed - and he could have voted out whom he wanted with 1 vote again.

My first reaction was to agree with you that yes, that would have been the smarter play. He could have taken out Mike, as he said he wanted to. On the other hand, this way, he got some in-fighting among the other five and they have dirt on their hands and sends Ashley to the jury as a pissed off jury member and probably feeling particularly betrayed by Devon. So I could see an argument for doing it either way.

Am I the only one who thinks it was completely bogus that Ben was allowed to play his idol before the votes were cast? I don't think Jeff should have said if it was real or not until right before the votes were read.

^^ Kinda agree with that thought. Sure, you can turn it in ahead of time if you want. But Jeff should not confirm if it is or is not a real Idol until *after* the vote. Rule change for next Season please! :P

But Ashley is much more of an immunity threat than Mike is.

People can play their idol any time they please. I may not like it, but it doesn't violate any rule.

Interesting - no obvious tribe themes, two instead of three (so bigger groups of people for us to sort out in the early eps!), and this line is intriguing:

Furthermore, nobody looks less than in ideal or athletic shape, which is quite startling and immediately noticeable.

I wonder if it's a season that will be focused on physical challenges and the physical tolls of the game? More so than the emotional journeys of the past, or the heavy strategy needed for multiple tribe switches, idols and advantage play?

Or maybe the producers just didn't want to see the likes of Ryan's heart beating through his rib cage any more?

I :wuzrobbed of ever getting on Survivor. I'm 45 and chubby. I guess I would have to APPLY to get on, right?

New season - Interesting with the age range.
I always wonder - I know part is for looks.
But also I would think more 20 somethings may be able to up and leave their life for over a month more easily. If still living home etc.
Older people may not have that flexibility.
I would hope to balance this new season, they have a season with everyone over 35?

Looking forward to tomorrow night -hope we are entertained and ok with the outcome.

Can't believe tonight is the Finale already and I don't really have anyone I am rooting for to win. As long as Ben doesn't win, I can live with any of the others winning. I like Devon and Ryan the most, but if they don't win I won't be too upset about it. I don't like it when that happens because then I don't have anyone to scream and shout for winning the final challenges.

I thought that was a great ending to what started off as a blah season. Ben and Chrissy were both worthy contenders. I actually thought Chrissy had it, but I kept remembering that the exit interiews indicated that she rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

I don't get how next season is going to work, so of course I'm going to have to watch it to find out. :P.

Okay I take back the thing about not having anything to scream and shout for because DAMN was that final Challenge intense!! Those intricate balance type things make my nerves jump just watching, I could never do any challenges like that because I have no patience. I wonder how long it took them to do that game? I didn't see a time clock like they sometimes put up showing the lapsed time. I ssssooooo did not want Ben to win that challenge and was yelling and cheering at the TV so much I scared my poor kitty. That was beautiful when it all came down to and upside down letter and it all came crashing down. :P

As for the ending ..... :blah::blah::blah:. I almost feel like it had an edge of sympathy vote to it. I woulda voted Chrissy, even though of the 3 of them I liked Ryan more.

So the thing about "seeing Ryan's heart beating thru his chest" comments in this thread and Jeff tonight. I thought that was just a figure of speech type thing and people were just gasping about how skinny Ryan was? Jeff said you could literally see his heart beating in his rid cage? When was this??? Is there a clip or something cause I sure don't remember seeing that as I was watching.

So next season, there are so many young people they probably aren't even old enough to have seen or remember all those blown Idol deals that are going to play into the Season. I didn't remember the block things Jeff held up until they showed it in the clip. Maybe that's why they are all so young.

Yes, I remember seeing it on a few occasions (for example, when Ryan was standing in line before a challenge). Ryan was skin and bones!

A satisfying ending. Ryan was not a full level goat, and 2good contenders at the end.
Chrissy just rubs me the wrong way, so glad she did not win, even though on paper she is a deserving winner. I feel the linking of her to being a mom equals hero was ‘stretched’
She comes across as phony.
Interesting twist to get to the final 3. I think I like it, but will have to dwell on it. It gives the outcast person another chance, but is that producer manipulation or a new game play.
I do like how many people were really playing this season.

Wow on barely any discussion with earlier nonjury boots
Hope Ben does well

I do like the format of the FTC, interactive and gets meatier discussion.
I do like how Ryan got called out for not helping around camp. As a super fan, he should know better.
Like big brother, attention to jury management, or lack of was also addressed.

ITa. I am having trouble envisioning next seasons theme

I feel for Devon, but could see him coming back. I actually hope he waits a few years, he is young and a more mature Devon could be dangerous

Amazing race starts soon, then Survivor again !

I liked Ryan until the FTC. :shuffle:

There was a challenge where Jeff commented on it and you could clearly see Ryan's heart pulsing on camera. You can see a flash of it here if you click on the video spoiler: https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/comments/7daoni/is_this_the_freakiest_thing_survivor_has_ever/

Blech. Producers had way too much influence on the outcome. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Exactly. Once Dr. Mike left, I think the producers scrambled, bellowed for some parchment and started screaming at all the staff, "How do we get Ben to the final three? HOW DO WE GET BEN TO THE FINAL THREE??!!"

I would be SOOOOO pissed right now if I was Chrissy! What a bullsh*t set-up by the producers. :angryfire  :soapbox:
