Aaahhh, beautiful Maia! :glamor: The Shibs are just so stunning and lovely. They have really turned the corner with their growth and maturity on the ice. I really hope they shock and surprise this season. I would love to see them crack into the top two. I am an optimist with stuff like this, and I think it could happen, but politics always get in the way. So, here's hoping the ShibSibs buck the trend! :40beers: :kickass: :cheer2:

I agree. This music is close to my heart as Dai skated to it in his SP in the 2010-211 season. I am really
impressed by what I have seen so far. They look fabulous!

They sold it really well in the beginning, but were thinking a little more towards the end. I think that's to be expected in a first outing though. By the Olympics this should be amaaaazing.

Also this is definitely my favorite SD of the year. Feels like real Latin.
 
Such a great TES score, especially for debuting at the GP and in Russia. I thought B/S would be put first due to PCS, but I'm glad I was wrong about that. I think the Shibs will have to fight some more to get their PCS back into top contender status like they did back in 2015-2016, but I rather the Shibs be close due to PCS than TES because PCS can always climb up. The fact that they hit TES is a great sign. This dance could be a lot better too, so they have great scoring potential.
 
Really appreciate the way the music was edited in the SD. It all makes sense, rather than just random pieces stuck together. Also, though the first piece was slowed down just a bit once the pattern began, the slow down was so non-obvious that it almost seemed like it didn't happen. That's some good editing!
 
Nice to see them in first in spite of skating in Russia against Russian rivals. Maybe the gap could possibly have been even bigger if they skated elsewhere.

The double choctaw during the rhumba CD pattern looked pretty good to me too. I didn't like their change of free leg position during the wide-step but that's probably the traditionalist in me talking.

Congrats to the Shibs for that HUGE TES ! I'm very happy for them !!
I think they can let it go even more, so that the overall score improve. They have the same BV as B/S (who did really well on the TES too) BUT that's reassuring to see that with the same BV, Shibs does win (especially in Russia).
Now I can't wait for Paradise :encore:
 
I'm impressed with what Maia & Alex did today in Moscow. Great program and, just as important, they showed once again what strong competitors they are. Coming into Russia for their first event, with no prior outings in front of audiences/judges, and after weeks of buzz around V/M and P/C, it would've been very easy to succumb to nerves a little bit. But they didn't and were solid as a rock. As @topaz said, the race is on for U.S. #1--and also the chance to be in the team event. Performances like this one will give USFS every reason to punch the Shibs' ticket for the team event.
 
I'm impressed with how the Shibs just aren't going away. With everything that's happened in their careers and all the ups and downs and various criticisms they've faced, they keep coming back stronger. I am eager to watch their free dance and hope they can push for huge scores.
 
It's amazing that in the last 4 seasons, the Shibs have had all incredible SDs, it's admirable, because as Maia wrote on her blog, there are many limitations with all ISU requirements, but I guess they like challenges. And although I read some comments saying they chose the simple route, I actually think they took the hard way with this program, especially because the 99% of people think that Latin rhythm = sex.
In fact I can totally imagine them going to some salsa club just for pleasure. At least in my town it is relatively common to see siblings dancing, or two sisters, two female friends without any physical or romantic relationship, and among friends who just want to have fun without any intention of flirting. But I understand that sex sells, then I'm not surprised that certain people do not like the program or their performance.

And the music is beyond of words, the way they integrate it to the whole program is brilliant, never cheap, thanks Ryan.
