If he gets PCs anywhere near that of Kagiyama, I might just have to write a strongly worded letter to the ISU that will have no impact whatsoever.
This may not be correct, but when there is technical brillance (not just excellent) a PCS package goes along with it. Look at those little Russian girls - with all their jumps were they really at the level of Kostner?

What an INSANE event. Kudos to the amazing skaters!

Ilia - L.E.G.E.N.D. That was SICK. Haterz can gripe about his PCS being inflated due to tech content all they want but he lit the arena on FIRE and if that isn't deserving of 9's then I dunno what is. So happy for him.

Yuma - LOVE HIM and this program. Just an insane talent.

Adam - no words. So insanely proud of him although I was on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering if the two points was going to make some pivotal placement difference. I almost wonder whether coming in from a more conventionally medal contention place after the short would have made him tense up and lose out on a bronze. In any case MAD RESPECT and officially one of my top 3 mens skaters.

Shoma - I'm not a huge fan and I thought both of his programs this season were AWFUL but gotta commend his smiley, easy breezy attitude following his free. Seems very zen.

Brown - I can't believe Mark and Tonia didn't call out his INSANE stalking, telegraphing, ten minute entries into those triple axels. How he is getting +3 on that element is a JOKE. Also this Imposs Dream program is $hit and I didn't like the short either. Glad to hear he's getting new material for next season.

Lukas - shoulda beat Jason but whatever. This dude feels like the Euro exchange student always trying to get people to join a drinking game at 9 in the morning.

Cha - I love his costumes and his glowy skin makes him look like he's walking around with a real time face tune filter. Korea is so lucky they eked out two spots here.

Selevko - find him very hot and zexy for some reason.

Gorodnitsky - love his jumps. Those axels are GORG.

Frangipani - love his commitment and wild energy. Prefer him over Memola so hope he continues to gain consistency and becomes the ITA front runner.

Camden - ugh. what a bummer. Wonder if he's going to amp up his training now that he's graduating. So much talent but always just looks like 30% of it showing up on the ice. Needs to work on his non jump levels too. And get better material.

Luc - love this dude and this utter nonsense transition going into his step sequence is frikking A D O R A B L E.

It's been a while since I watched any part of Worlds live, but DH and I watched the last flight of men last night - overall, a skate for the ages. I held my breath every time Ilia went up for a jump, but I obviously didn't need to. Absolutely amazing, and his TES and PCS scores were well-deserved.

As for Jason, I don't give a flying 'eff if he stalks his triple axels or if some folks think he should quit because he doesn't have quads. He's been the bloody saving grace for 3 spots for US men at Worlds/Olympics 5 times out of the last 10 years and has medaled at US Nationals EIGHT out of those same 10 years. When the rest of the US field can beat him, THEN they can go in his place. PERIOD.

He has telegraphed the triple axels for as much as I can remember. But they do seem the telegraph is getting even more pronounced. I don’t think they called them out anymore because it’s just so well known?

It got really obvious the past two seasons with his slowdown in competing.

His 3A were great as recently as 2022:

Speaking of Sinnerman, wish that was a program he would bring back.

Yeah, not much telegraph there. he also seems to be skating faster. I wonder why the telegraph is getting more obvious

I'm afraid I couldn't be here on FSU last night because I can't sit a long time in my wheelchair. I'm always here on my laptop, and I can no longer carry it around with me wherever I go. I have it set up on a 2'1/2" by 6' folding table with my scanner to the right and modem to the left. So I watched last night on the USA channel while I was on my cellphone with one of my BFF's who loves the sport of figure skating as much as I do.

We both hated that Shoma fell because he's one of the most talented skaters we've ever seen. Still, his sense of humor and personality is amazing, and I wish others would realize that more people like him would make this world a much better place to live.

Regarding Jason. I realize that others here may not have liked his LP. I'm proud of him, however, because he helped to bring the USA 3 spots for Worlds next year. I don't think we'll ever see another skater that is as artistically gifted and skilled with his presentation as he is. And no matter how much it is my dream to see him make a program out of Ella Fitzgerald's Blue Skies, I still enjoyed his program last night. If there was ever anyone that could perform to it and make that a signature program, it would be Jason.

And regarding Ilia. It was like watching an artist produce a masterpiece. He made history last night. It was about three years ago when I mentioned that someday another skater would be able to add a quad axel to his portfolio. I thought last night after seeing Ilia accomplish that at Worlds that someday someone would come along and add a quintuple axel to his portfolio. But then I realized whoever accomplished that would have to be able to fly.

And Yuma! We're going to see more wonderful skating in the future from that young man! Talented isn't the word I'm thinking of right this moment; it's more like Brilliant!!!

US needs to take notes from Canada on how to put on worlds! The choir was great the Kiss and Cry was gorgeous, the sweepers were stylish. I loved the pictures framing the kiss and cry as well as the color scheme they used. Great day for sports! Two wins for the US and Wolfpack wins! So proud of Isabeau as well!

Who's going to tell caseyedwards that 30% of the men who ranked top 10 in the FS last night didn't land any quads? One might guess consistency in landing all the jumps you do, plus high quality steps and spins maybe mean something to the judges. :rollin:

It may be too late to tinker, but Goridnitsky has a gorgeous 3A, and Gorodnitsky coaches not too far away from where Brown trains. Skaters go to specialists all the time without changing coaches.

Because he substantially curtailed his training post-Olympics. He was literally performing in Japan last week, and that's been his general schedule this last 2 seasons. I think he just flew directly from Japan to worlds.

Training matters. And all of this has been kind of an experiment for him, to see if he could and would enjoy keeping a foot in the competitive world while he also moved onto new horizons in his life.

My guess is that Jason stalked his axel because it had been going poorly in practice, and he was trying to make sure to get it right. So perhaps if he can get more comfortable with it again, the stalking will stop.
he stalked it at us nats too. I just think his technique has degraded some. This isn't a knock at him, it's just a thing that happens.

Having watched everything after reading this thread: as a technical achievement, it may be years before anyone rivals what Ilia did. But as a program... meh. Yuma is a beautiful skater but the sleeves on that costume ruin his lines, I am displeased! Adam was wonderful, Britschgi is a delight and as always I adored Donovan Carrillo.

Selevko - find him very hot and zexy for some reason.
Reason = you have eyes?

Idgi what ppl mean by "stalking" a 3A. The axel is a jump where it's impossible to just jump into it. It has a very distinct entrance.

Please. This is so ridiculous and off-base. Jason holds his back edge almost doing a half-circle around the rink before he finally feels ready to jump. It's stalked from almost 10 seconds away, even longer than what someone like Sandhu used to do. If you don't see that longgggggg approach, then you aren't looking. That's all there is to that!

And Mark Gorodnitsky steps right into his Axel with zero preparation if you want an exact opposite example. No one is even asking for that kind of thing, though. Many of the top skaters have found choreographic nuances to go into the jump rather than riding that edge forever.

I don't mind Jason being on each and every World team that he earns, but the jump is stalked, it's always tight on the landing with questionable rotation as he hits the ice, and he manages insane GOE. Insane. Skaters that didn't even qualify to the free skate do much more reasonable 3A's time and time again and they only get above 0 GOE on an extremely generous day. Make it make sense.

Yeah, lots of skaters have a really lovely spread eagle into their axels - whether it be double, triple or quad - and then they just step right up into the jump. Then, there are other skaters who just take forever to launch into that jump and it's pretty obvious. Jason and Junhwan are two of the most obvious examples of the latter technique.

Absolutely! I would love to see how any competitors without any of the quad jumps would skate against Jason. How would they compare to Jason? Those skaters better have a very clean skate in both the TES and PCS scores or they will go downhill because none of them even come close to what Jason can do without those quad jumps Period. And, yes, without Jason, we wouldn't have had those 3 spots 5 times out of 10 years!
