Not just Donovan, but the whole team seems to be clicking. And this is largely the B team. USMNT finally has some depth, and Klinsmann seems to be doing a great job of creating a pipeline for talent and helping the group to peak at the right time.

It looks good so far. Honduras on Saturday then, hopefully, Panama or Mexico on Sunday to get the Gold Cup.

Then September & WC qualifiers start again. We need 2 wins from 4 games to advance. We'll see how it goes.

The level of corruption and waste in FIFA is disgusting. What is worse is that they appear to be untouchable.

So Klinsmann gets suspended for Sunday's game for "throwing a ball violently?" WTH? Instead, they should have suspended the incredibly incompetent referee who let a ton of dangerous plays occur without booking anyone. Sheesh

Well, our boys wond the gold cup for the first time in 6 years!! Donovan wins the Ballon D'or, bunch of the boys played very well....and poor Stu Holden may have another knee injury. All in all, a great tourney.

And incredibly, the USMNT is riding an 11 game win streak in all competitions! Woo-Hoo

Interesting game in NYC tonight: NY Cosmos v Ft Lauderdale Strikers. Something that has not happened since the 1980s.

Don Garber made an interesting announcement the other night during the MLS all-star game: MLS will expand to 24 teams by 2020. Pick where the 4 teams will come from. Since there are no teams in the SE USA the frontrunners are Orlando, Miami, Atlanta and ??????

NJL (....we'll see....Miami is there strictly on David Beckham's supposed involvement.....no Becks, no Miami?...He'll make his announcement before years end....where ever he goes is in....:)....)

I hope Miami gets one too Neil. :cheer2:
It is a mixed bag here about MLS. The Hispanic majority in M-D county are delighted because they think they'll get an MLS super team that will rival Man U, Barca, etc because of Beckham. I doubt this. I see more a team like TFC or Portland that will struggle for several years until it finds it's footing. Since the people in Miami only want the best this could cause big problems with attendance.

Plus, there is an established team in Ft Lauderdale that has a fanbase that, basically, does not want Mr Beckham's team here at all. They have their team and really don't need another one. Add to that the fact that ClaurBecks has done zero to appeal to these people. All they ever talk about are the residents in M-D county, even though those good people have never, ever supported local, domestic, USA soccer. They'll turn out by the tens of thousands for an event at Sunlife Stadium, but have ignored anything that looks "American" to them in any form.

I consider MLS in M-D to be a gamble. It they push the right buttons they'll do well. If not, they'll die. Which is fine with me. Every team from M-D that has wanted to survive has moved north. Hopefully, the Ft Lauderdale Strikers will have survived long enough to take over another failure from the south if that should happen.

We'll see how this plays out. IMvhO the best way would be for both teams to survive and prosper. That actually doubles our fun. Sadly, most of us think the the tri-county will only support one team. That is not good.

NJL (...we'll see what happens....:cool.....)

Interesting friendly yesterday in Sarajevo. Bosnia-Herzegovina led the USA 0-2 after 30 minutes and held that lead until halftime. Then, the USA outscored them 4-1 in the 2nd half to win 4-3. The 1st time the USA has had a comeback win in Europe. The longest winning streak in team USA history is now up to 12 games (also the longest winning streak of any team, anywhere right now). Jozy Altodore's hat trick makes him the 1st player in USA history to score in 5 consecutive international games (he also assisted on the other goal). He is only the 3rd player in team history to have multiple hat tricks.

Next up is an away game in Costa Rica, the only CONCACAF team we have never beaten on the road. Mexico also shared that distinction until we beat them at Azteca Stadium this year. A win now would not only give us wins everywhere in the confederation, but would pretty much insure we go to the WC in Brazil next year.

NJL (...how long ago was it that we lost a WCQ away game in Hondura and all of us were singing the blues and wanting Klinsmann lynched...:D...)

I guess it is safe to say you no longer wants Klinsmann hanged?! :p Hopefully this means only good things for team USA, because I am betting right now on the US reaching the semis! :cheer2:

LOL, uh, not anymore!!

This is unprecedented play for the USMNT, and as a fan, I am frankly stunned by their play this summer. One more thing, Klinsmann seems to have uncovered two more Euro gems in Aron Johannson of Iceland and John Anthony Brooks of Germany. Johannson looks like a killer striker and Brooks may challenge Gonzalez and Besler for CB playing time.

I think that's one of several areas where he is a clear improvement over Bradley. Although Klinsmann took heat for not winning right off the bat, I think it was the right approach to start looking for fresh talent, especially at that point in the cycle. Bradley was just way too cautious with his choices, and then we suffered for having no depth. As it is now, even our B team is pretty stacked. Plus, the players really seem to respond to the responsibility he gives them.

Get your World Cup tickets!
[

I actually just completed my application :slinkaway. I'm trying for the quarters in Rio and Salvador, which are two cities I would want to visit any way. We got both quarters I applied for in Johannesburg and got to see Spain on their way to the final. We also saw Ghana-Uruguay, which was quite an experience. When Uruguay won the shootout after surviving due to Suarez's intentional handball on the goal line, there was dead silence in a stadium of 85,000 people.

I'll find out in early November...

Good luck! I wish I cold go but alas circumstances does not permit. So once again I am stuck watching on television. But at least I will have a unlimited supply of chicken wings. :D. And the CL playoffs are on! Arsenal is in the hot seat!

The highlights on Citytv of the Man U v Chelsea games shows the name of Munich and the insignia of the German Bundesliga. They have showed it a few times now. Not sure why no one hasn't picked up on the error.

Just in case anyone was wondering; Man U's stocks are trading at $17.01 each on the NYSE.
