Migrant labourers and security guards are allegedly being paid to fill stadiums ahead of the 2022 WC. This is an allegation I remember was levelled against Qatar after the 2011 Asia Cup final between Australia and Japan.

The AFC Asian Cup 2011 was not without controversy as concerns were risen about the extremely low crowds at most Asian Cup games not featuring the host nation Qatar. The average attendance was just 12,006, much lower than the previous AFC Asian Cup tournaments. North Korea and the United Arab Emirates both had the lowest attendance numbers with approximately 3,000 and 6,000 attendances respectively.[17] The final match between Japan and Australia saw as many as 3,000 to 10,000 fans with valid tickets denied entry to the stadium[18] which then allegedly sparked small skirmishes among fans, "It was just incredibly badly handled. There were kids and families, not causing any problem, being confronted by riot police and being told they weren't getting in," according to Andy Richardson, Al Jazeera's sports correspondent.[19] The AFC stated that the gates were closed early for security concerns and organisers did not anticipate an influx of Japanese and Australian fans. The organising committee has offered to refund all tickets not redeemed at the match.[20]

After 2 1/2 years we finally have 1000 posts! WEEEE! :cheer2:

Thanks mainly to your impressive efforts to keep this thread running. There may not be huge numbers following regularly, but I know there are a few of us who really appreciate the updates for our second favorite sport.

Woooo-hooooo!!!! The FBI are investing Sepp Blatter in connection with $100m worth in bribes paid out by sports marketing company ISL.

Sports marketing company ISL paid a total of $100m to officials including former Fifa president Joao Havelange and ex-Fifa executive Ricardo Teixeira.

In return, ISL was granted lucrative television and marketing rights throughout the 1990s.

Blatter denied knowing about the bribes and took no action.

He even allowed Teixeira to take part in the notorious vote for the 2018

Manchester United exit the Champions League. Time for Louis van Gaal to go. He has been a real disappointment. His signings have been poor, and the team is barely any better than when he arrived. Also time to get rid of Rooney

Both Chelsea and Arsenal made it through to the knock out phase in the Champions League, and join Man City who made it through yesterday

Chelsea might as well make the most of their time in the CL because their prospects for next season does not look so good. :p :EVILLE:

Well, last time they were in that situation they won the competition. I don't think they can do it with their disastrous form this year though.

Anyone catch the FIFA story on "60 Minutes" last night? I wish we could start all over with new, honest representatives from member nations. Something tells me they are waiting for the FBI to lose interest so they can continue on with their despicable ways.

I'm so glad there are some Premier league fans on here! Football (soccer) is my obsession, but I never ventured into this thread because I thought it was mainly a discussion about MLS.

I'm in London and Arsenal are my team, but ARGH it's SO frustrating to support them!! This should have been their year. They had countless opportunities to run away with the league whilst Chelsea and United self-destructed and City kept dropping points. Now it may end up being between bloody Leicester and Tottenham! Ahhhhh
