It's not officially the calendar Slam as that is when all 4 majors are won in the same calendar year. But he does hold all 4 at the series time and the last time that happened was when Rod Laver did it in the 1960s and that is an amazing achievement so congrats to Novak. And he could still do the calendar year Slam as he is just that good at the moment.

Yes, congrats Novak. He played really well, so it is well deserved.

CYGS is a possibility with his level right now... and it doesn't hurt that neither Nadal nor Federer are at their best anymore and the next generation hasn't really come through... it's basically up to Murray, Wawrinka, and a few others having great days, who can challenge Novak at all right now.

Hoping Nadal will be healthy and ready for the Olympics.

I'm watching the Federer-Zverev semifinal in Halle right now - in 3rd set!

ETA: Zverev defeats the 8-time champion here 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 6-3!

Congrats to the underdog veteran Florian Mayer, age 32, on defeating 19-year-old Sascha Zverev in Halle 6-2 5-7 6-3 for only his 2nd career title!

Madison Keys also won her second career title today! She beat Barbora Strycova, 6-3, 6-4 in Birmingham.

Andy Murray is off to a strong start in the third set against Milos Raonic...
ETA: Murray won 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-3.

Wimbledon is shaping up to be very exciting. So many story lines.

Will be interesting to see how Djokovic competes after finally realizing his goal at the French. He will be one of few who have taken the whole grass season off.

Vika withdrew from Wimbledon with a knee injury.

Serena is still the favorite. Grass and her serve are a match made in heaven.

She has alot of points to defend but so do many. Halep is due for a good GS. I have no faith in Kvitova nor Radwanska(Radwanska's game is not a good fit for grass). I think Konta will have a very good tourney.

Key should do well.

Well Wimbledon started yesterday and there was a little spark of brightness with an unlikely British qualifier Marcus Willis who is ranked 772 in the world and who caused a huge upset with victory over world number 54 Ricardas Berankis.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/36645639

He had to qualify for the qualifications tournament - so had won 6 matches to get to yesterdays first round match. He was on the verge of accepting an offer from America to go and do some coaching but his girlfriend talked him out of that and his reward - a 2nd round match against Roger Federer probably on Centre Court on Wednesday :40beers:

I have no faith in Kvitova nor Radwanska(Radwanska's game is not a good fit for grass).

 Radwanska has been to a Wimbledon final....

... in 2012, losing to Serena in three sets. Her only GS final to date.

She won Eastbourne in 2008 and was runner-up last year.

She also has two Wimbledon semi-finals to her name, including last year. She's reached the semi-finals, at least, in three of the last four years.

Oh and two other Wimbledon quarter-finals. And three fourth-rounds.

It's her best slam and her biggest chance - her win-loss record there is 36-10.

Grass does suit her game because she can use the low bounce and the pace of the court to counter effectively. Her strokes are short and choppy, so the quickness of grass doesn't compromise her as much as many others, lus she moves well, always vital at Wimbledon. She is far more successful here than on, say, clay, where you have more time but have to generate pace yourself, which she doesn't have the strength or technique to do. Her French Open record is poor for a player of her ability - only one QF in nine years (she is 18-9 there)

A festival in the centre court at Wimbledon under the roof as Marcus Willis - a Brit who is 720 something in the world - takes on 7 time champion here and 17 GS to his name - Roger Federer. Marcus hasn't stopped smiling since he walked onto court .

ETA: So after losing 7 games in a row Marcus wins a game and gets a standing ovation!!

And Garbine Mugaruza is out. 6-2,6-3. This is my issue with Garbine. Inconsistent and low energy matches. She lost to a qualifier.

Bouchard comeback over Konta in 3.

Coco Vanderwege has had a good year so far. She is playing very well.

Aga had to come back and win in three over Konjah.

Cornet beat Errani and it looks like Bencic had to retire

The whole bottom half of the ladies draw is a massacre. It's a good opportunity for Sabine Lisicki to up her ranking since she seems to play her best at Wimbledon, though she might meet Safarova in the fourth round.

Del Portro takes out Warinka... and Sam Querrey is up a set and a break on Djokovic? :watch:

ETA: Querrey now up two sets. Andy Murray's voodoo dolls are working overtime. :p

Novak is so so lucky that rain came.

Wasn't he just. 2 sets to love down. And a 6-1 2nd set

ETA: Rain suspends play for the night. That had got to help Novak as Sam was just rolling over him. Hopefully Sam can come out in the same mind-set tomorrow.

Good opportunity for Venus too if her body can hold up. I think Kerber and Halep have a good chance too.

It's a shame that Coco Vanderwege is in Serena's section. I would love for to play Radwanska. Coco beat her a two weeks ago in Birmingham.

Sam Querry did it - beating Novak Djokovic in 4 sets . I thought that the rain suspending the play last night when Sam was just rolling through that Novak would come back today and take the next 3 sets. And sure enough he came back and won the first 4 games today and the 3rd set. But a couple of rain delays meant that neither man was going to take a foothold and Novak was serving for the 4th set at one point. But Querry held his nerve in the tie-break and took the game on his second match point. So congrats to him :cheer2:

To be honest Novak didn't look all there - Sue Baker is saying he looks ill but he just looks out of sorts - lots of break points against him and not taking the ones Sam offered him.

So the calendar - and golden - slam off the table but Novak does - for another week - hold all 4 slams at the same time - and lets be honest keeping up the high level week in weeks out isn't as easy as he made it look for such a long time.

So great opportunity for Murray - and even Federer who seems to be playing his way into the torney - or maybe even a new slam winner this time around.

Sad for Novak, but happy for Sam.

Murray should be the favorite by far, but now he's really going to feel that pressure. Federer is also probably thinking this may be his best shot at another Slam title.
