Spelling Bee - Main page

https://spellingbee.com/watch - viewing guide.

Preliminaries started this morning. I am watching free on Tubi (search for ION and click on the live icon) This link may or may not work - https://tubitv.com/live/684165/ion-plus

Last year when the Bee switched to ION, I was very disappointed in the coverage. I hope it's better this year. I tune in to watch spelling, not fluff. The preliminary rounds this morning are great so far.

Thank you for the Tubi link, which is working for me. 🤓

(For prelims/quarterfinals/semifinals today and tomorrow -- but not for finals on Thursday -- free streaming also can be viewed at your Main page link [scroll down]. When I compared a few minutes ago, it was a little bit behind the Tubi streaming.)

Thank you for this @A.H.Black ! In the Before Times I used to go to conferences around this time of year, and watching the Bee was great entertainment while I was travelling. But most of those conferences have gone online, so I don't remember that it's Bee time if I'm not sitting in an airport or hotel lobby and watching the spellers.

ETA: The speller from Kitchener ON says her favourite athlete is Madeline Schizas!

Tonight's broadcast must be a tape delay of the streaming from this afternoon. The finalists have been chosen for tomorrow. I wonder if they will insert a bunch of fluff for the TV broadcast. Hope not. The drama is in the spelling. Quite honestly, I also wish they didn't have to add a comfort speech whenever anyone misses a word. Maybe the spellers like it.

I'm rooting for Surya Kapu. He has looked very impressive through all 8 rounds. If that's a spoiler - sorry.

I wasn't able to watch the livestreaming today so I'm looking forward to seeing Sarah Fernandes (age 11, grade 5) tonight on the taped broadcast.

Some articles before tonight's Final:

Salt Lake's Surya Kapu ("He took fifth place last year after becoming one of the few contestants ever to successfully challenge their elimination."):

Three local students – seventh grader Dhruv Subramanian, 12, of Windemere Ranch Middle School in San Ramon, eighth grader Vikrant Chintanaboina, 14, of Discovery Charter School - Falcon Campus in San Jose, and seventh grader Shradha Rachamreddy, 13, of BASIS Independent Silicon Valley Upper School in San Jose – are among the 11 finalists competing to be crowned spelling champion Thursday night.
All three competitors are sponsored by the San Ramon Valley Rotary Club.

Sarah Fernandes from Millard, Nebraska: https://www.3newsnow.com/news/spell...ne-of-11-kids-in-national-spelling-bee-finals
Sarah is talented in many other ways. She has played piano at several big venues, including Carnegie Hall.
The skill of spelling runs in the family as her sister Hannah has been to nationals twice and has won the metro bee five times.

Sarah's great. I find it endearing that she cannot stop moving while she is spelling. I wonder if she is always fidgety.

I see that Vanya Shivashankar gratuated from Yale. Wonder if she and Nathan ever ran into each other. She's younger than Nathan (she's 21) but she is also listed in the school of medicine at Yale.
