Verner may have pulled out because his junior boy Jiri Belohradsky is competing in Poland this weekend.

True.

Verner accompanied Jiri's younger brother, Matyas, to his first JGP in Riga and Vlasta Koprivova was with Jiri at his JGP in Minsk. We'll see who shows up with Jiri in Gdansk tomorrow. :)

Oda and Abbott both are still skating (competing at the Japan Open) but not competing in "eligible" competition.

I know about Abbott but I thought Oda retired long ago. Didn't know he was still skating, even in exhibitions.

Ladies FS is underway...

https://twitter.com/pandaatlarge/status/916513281841311744
Nagasu double footed the 3A but nailed the rest of elements nicely. 72.57+62,12=134.69!
https://twitter.com/pandaatlarge/status/916515133165248512
Marin Honda had a decent opening until she SO on the 3Lz of the planned combo, managed to add a 1Lo2S to the ending 2A. 69.20+64.21=133.41
https://twitter.com/pandaatlarge/status/916516996744863744
Zagitova might show slight shakiness, but no, she wasn't gonna fall. Also, the height of 3Lz3Lo is impressive. 79.21+66.07=145.28!!!
https://twitter.com/pandaatlarge/status/916519605559992320
Karen Chen may be called a lot of UR. 55.22+62.1-1=116.32.
ETA:

https://twitter.com/pandaatlarge/status/916521164154970113
Mihara is so solid, another crystal clean program. 77.25+70.58=147.83!!!
https://twitter.com/pandaatlarge/status/916523680460500992
Long live the queen [Medvedeva]. 77.03+75.05=152.08.

Good for Mirai! She's doing amazing this season - I hope she keeps it up. I'll be interested to see Karen's protocols. It's not an awful score, but I'd agree URs might be plaguing her.

Also, is it just me or do Zagitova's scores seem insanely inflated every time I see them? Like, with shakiness you shouldn't be getting 130+ let alone 145!

This is a glorified cheese fest ;) and we haven't seen scores or video, just one person's impression

@oleada I mean, I get it's made for TV competition and higher scores are more exciting for those all important ratings, but aren't the judges still ISU ones? I could see them inflating a bit, like up to 140, but that high?! Medvedeva is over 150.

Med & Zag, an incredible one-two punch for Russia. Granted, things could change on a dime - but wow! Impressive!

I see everyone's score up to this point, and then I see Javier's :smokin:score. :D Miles away...
Miles away from Bychenko, who is not the most consistent skater and isn't going to compete for an Olympic medal even on his best day; and from two retired skaters in their 30s.

Yeah, shocking.

I heard that Mai skated really well! :rollin:

Medvedeva skated Anna Karenina, which she skated at Dreams on Ice.

I'm probably in the minority but I think it would be great if she went to this for her FS. I love her current fs music and program but it feels a lot like the short and I think this music has more tension. Her tech score was 5 points higher here so she seems to be improving as the season warms up

Ladies' judges are on crack  But it also makes sense to have inflated scores in a made for TV competition for the country where skating is the most popular. I just hope that nobody breaks 140 for their first GP, because aside from Kostner, no other woman this far in the season has a program that warrants extremely high PCS.

Looking at the scores, it seems as Karen had about a similar outing as at US International.

Curious to see Mirais program, she is on a roll it seems. I hope this new found consistency will put some confidence in her so that she can better trust her technique and work on those PCS..
It is always wonderful to see a skater make progress at a later stage of their careers!

I love Mihara and when she is skating cleanly, the scores should be right up there with the Russians.

I cannot stand only tanoing and backloading of the jumps BUT the consistency of Eteris ladies is out of this world.. I would love to fall in love with Zhenyas skating so I am looking foward to see this Anna Karenia program.
