This is a chain game. Here are three pieces of music used for a hypothetical free dance (not necessarily in this order) by... I'll say Virtue and Moir.

Explain the story of that dance. Then list your own set of three pieces and tell us which skaters are using them. Hopefully someone will be able to describe their story.

Für Elise (Beethoven)
Schindler's List
"Bali H'ai" from South Pacific

What are Scott and Tessa trying to tell us?

This is amazing !
I really like the pieces that you choose by the way, it's gorgeous. I'll take this order.

FE : I see 2 people, not necessarily a couple. I'll let their natural chemistry transform what the music is by themselves (romance, friendship, it doesn't matter). But it's a bit playful. Not 2 kids, yet not 2 serious grown ups. They just met, learn about each other, have a an instant bond.

SL : times are a bit darker. One of them is facing issues (war, illness, again let the imagination of the viewer do the job). The other is desperate because of this "special bond" they have and try to "heal" what the other has. It's more passionate, they don't want to lose each other, they can't actually let go of each other, it's very sad.

BH : The one facing the issues has to go. Either die (from illness) or leave (for war ?) for example. He/She will leave the other it's certain. They both decide to have these special last moments together, yet it's tainted by the fact that they know they can't stay together. But they do it with honor : "some day you'll see me floating in the sunshine".

Then you want a sequel because it's so good. Or my story is utter cr*p. But I let some moments for imagination ! :biggrinbo

I've been trying to come up with something but I'm very unfamiliar with those pieces of music. What if the person would choose the music because it's hard to be inspired by music you don't really know. OTOH we can choose the skaters.

Or maybe people can post links. IMO it won't work to post your own pieces of music and then explain them. That would be too easy! :) The idea (as I understand it) is almost to replicate the experience of the judges, or at least the audience, who are hearing these peculiar music cuts and going &*)^@#?? as they try to figure out what is going on in the dance.

Feel free to post a different set of musics and perhaps @Anyasnake could post links to hers? I am not familiar with them either.

I'll try it!!
Hubbell/Donohue.
SYML - Fear of the water
After they breakup, they struggle to be alone, to learn how to move without the other. This is foreign, scary, but also a period of self-discovery.
M83 - Wait
The period of self-discovery and reflection continues. After the two partners are trying to learn to live alone, they have to come to terms with the past and the mistakes that were made between them in their relationship. They have to come to terms with what the relationship was, has become. There's a sense of desire to move on, but life does not allow it
SYML - Where's my love, acoustic version
Now both partners desire to love again, but it is difficult. They spent so much time yearning for love, searching for love and eventually realize it's been there all along, in the one they never stopped loving. "Just come home."

Actually I kinda want them to do this program. :)

Okay here are my three songs:
Chock/Bates
Air, La Femme d'Argent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4U19zwFENs
Jamie xx, Loud Places: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP9luRtEqjc
Thievery Corporation, Shadows of Ourselves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2cgoGrRlJk

ETA: honestly the Jamie xx song could suffice for a FD, but I'll let you all decide. ;)

Chock in femme fatale, strolling her sultry way at night, being in control of who she wants to be with yet staying quite detached never letting her guard down.
Jamie xx, Loud Places: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP9luRtEqjc
In one of those smoky bars, she finally meets someone who makes her stop and let go of her facade. He takes her on a nocturnal ride talking, laughing and sharing. Something she's never experienced with anyone, a strong immediate connection more than just a physical attraction.
Thievery Corporation, Shadows of Ourselves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2cgoGrRlJk
But her ways are too ingrained within herself and she can't prevent herself but messed it up and come back to her old behaviour, except now she's not only detached but melancholia sometimes hits her as she understands what she's lost.
