I was 19, it was a low-level competition mostly for kids where for the first time they added adults (with the cute name of "older beginners"). Since back then I was mostly training on public patches and was self-learning, I had no final version of my program and I had to improvise during the performance. Also, I was sewing the boot straps to my trousers on the train, so when I put them on it turned out that they are way too long and were dangerously dangling very close to my blades, so I had to cut them during the warm up
My first competition as an adult, about 22 years after my last one as a kid, I started my program towards the judges, took a look at them, and promptly forgot my program. Ever since, during warmup, I always smile at the panel as I pass by the first time.
Me and my siblings were skating for not even a year when we participated in the show of our club.
It was called "Broadway on Ice" and I participated in several group numbers like the opening (to the overture of "La Cage aux Folles"), "Money" from "Cabaret" (I was a coin), some numbers from "Grease" (I was a cheerleader and also in the "classroom"), a car driver in our "car dance" to a German song about traffic and in the closing number which was to "In the Mood" and something else I can't remember now.
It was great and we had such a blast.
Our first competitions were 2 months later, with the first being in Hamburg and the second one in Frankfurt. I came in 7th (out of 13 or so) in Hamburg and dead last in Frankfurt at the regionals only to come back stronger the following season and beating everyone I lost to in my first year to come in 2nd.
