This was briefly being discussed in the Canadian Pairs thread, but I thought it was interesting enough to warrant its own thread.
Whilst on Battle of the Blades, Meagan Duhamel reworked her throw salchow technique to change it from an arm hold to a hip hold. She posted an instagram video comparing both jumps. In my opinion, the hip hold throw was significantly more aesthetic.
She said this: And I now understand why the Russians and Chinese (and any other team that uses the hip hold) have such big throws. It does generate more explosive power.

I am intersted in people's views on the different throw jump techniques.
I will say that Shen/Zhao used an arm hold, rather than a hip hold, and their jumps were huge: https://youtu.be/9Kql3sf_crA?t=210
And I'm going back trying to think if different countries have different techniques. Moscovitch/Moore-Towers were a Canadian team and they did hip hold throws: https://youtu.be/dr62ka2t7Bc?t=168
