This is so sad! Only two survivors! Thoughts and prayers to the victims and their loved ones.

That video was horrifying. I can't believe there are even 2 survivors.

I'll be keeping an eye on the investigation for this with interest. Landing without gear is difficult, but it shouldn't end like that. I was shocked at the speed of the plane, and it didn't look like flaps or slats were deployed, meaning there was nothing attempting to slow it.

I can’t find it now but I did see video of the flight and it looked like it was not completely out of control but in a steep descent as it approached the airport.

Yonhap News Agency article (Jan. 1): https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20250101001854320
The flight recorder, retrieved earlier from the wreckage of the Jeju Air B737-800 aircraft at Muan International Airport, reportedly sustained some external damage, missing a connector that links its data storage unit to the power supply.
"We have determined that extracting data from the damaged flight data recorder here is not possible," said Joo Jong-wan, director of the aviation policy division at the ministry. "And so we have agreed with the NTSB to send it to the U.S. and analyze it there."
South Korean experts will participate in the analysis process in the U.S., he added.
However, the authorities have completed extracting data from the cockpit voice data recorder, found in a relatively better condition, and started converting it into voice files, the ministry said earlier.
The U.S. team arrived in South Korea on Monday and traveled directly to Muan, where it commenced its joint investigation with the Korean team led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport the following day.
During their initial joint on-site investigation, investigators focused on a navigation system that assists in aircraft landings, known as a localizer.
The localizer, installed on a concrete structure, at Muan International Airport has been blamed for exacerbating the severity of casualties in the Jeju Air crash.

Jan. 11th Reuters article - Jeju Air black box data missing from last 4 minutes before crash - republished here:
https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/11/jej...missing-from-last-4-minutes-before-crash.html
The two black boxes on the Boeing jet involved in the worst aviation disaster on South Korean soil stopped recording about four minutes before the accident, the transport ministry said on Saturday.
South Korean investigators previously said the flight data and cockpit voice recorders were key to finding out the cause of last month’s crash that killed 179 people.
It happened about four minutes after the pilot of the airliner operated by Jeju Air reported a bird strike.
Authorities investigating the crash plan to analyze what caused the black boxes to stop recording, the ministry said in a statement.
The voice recorder was initially analyzed in South Korea, and, when data was found to be missing, sent to a U.S. National Transportation Safety Board laboratory, the ministry said.
Sim Jai-dong, a former transport ministry accident investigator, said the discovery of the missing data from the budget airline’s Boeing 737-800 jet’s crucial final minutes was surprising and suggests all power, including backup, may have been cut, which is rare.
The transport ministry said other data available would be used in the investigation and that it would ensure the probe is transparent and that information is shared with the victims’ families.
