Anatoly Samokhvalov's interview with Pavel Drozd for ria.ru

AS: Pavel, will you continue skating?
PD: Of course I am. I love my sports and think I can d a lot there. Besides I've made quite a long journey to stop now. Not long ago I paired up with Ksenia Konkina and we'll be skating together. We have the same highest goals, we understand each other great, hence hope soon our team will become fruitful.

AS: Have you considered going back to Alla Loboda, with whom you took two medals at the Junior worlds?
PD: Alla and I made a long journey together. We had quite a successive juniors career. I will always be grateful to her for all the good things we gone through. Yet there is a moment in life when you part your ways and each has it's own path to follow. Am thrilled Alla continues a career and wish her all the best!

AS: How did an idea to pair up with the French Abashkina, who was skating with Touron came up?
PD: Anjelica and I known each other for a very long time and we always have been on very good terms. She is a wonderful talented skater. It happened that we spoke and decided to continue together. Besides, we heard many times we would be a successful team. We also understood the release from the French Federation would be hard. It turned out to be impossible. We never considered skating for France. I know Anjelica decided to retire, at least for now. It's sad - she is a talented, creative person who is in love with the sports. I would love to see her back on the ice, but it's her decision and we must accept it.

AS: Did you ever receive offers to represent another country, except for France?
PD: Yes, there were plenty of offers and am grateful for such an interest in me. But I have been representing Russia for a long time and am a patriot. The feeling when you are on the podium and your flag goes up is impossible to explain. I am not willing to exchange it.

AS: Will you and Konkina work with Zhulin?
PD: I switched to Zhulin's team in July with Anjelica. We stayed with Ksenia in the same team. Frankly am thrilled. Here, in Zhulin's group I found what I was looking for - a mature work with the professionals. We have a great creative atmosphere. I feel even in that short period of time I improved. Right now I am only sorry that I lost several months when switching, which prevented me from competing this season. I really hope we have a lot of fruitful years ahead of us.
Speaking of the coaches I would love to thank so much Ksenia Rumiantseva and Ekaterina Volobuyeva. Despite not working together anymore I will always be grateful for all they have done for me. It was with them I had a 7 years long journey, they did so much for me and shaped me as a skater. I will never forget all the good that they have done for me. I would love to thank all the specialists who worked with me and shared with me their knowledge.
This year marked a lot of changes in my life, I still have a lot to go through. But we get our challenges for a reason, hence I had to go through it. I can only say all that happened changed me, I became stronger. I have to be grateful for every experience. And I am.

AS: Who among the current ice dance leaders you like the most?
PD: Those who have a different style and a way of skating. The unique skaters. For example the Canadians Gilles/Poirier - they are original and creative. You can not mistake them for anyone. Every top team has their own specialites and it makes them different from the others.
