I just went to the new SafeSport site (https://uscenterforsafesport.org/) and noticed a "Support Our Mission" button. I clicked on it and it's a request for donations: https://uscenterforsafesport.org/about/donate/

I know there have been news stories about how the SafeSport organization is understaffed, and overwhelmed with complaints, but I thought SafeSport was supposed to be funded by donations from the sport organizations it governs. Is this a new thing, that it's asking for donations to support its work?

It is an important resource, but given the amount of power this organisation wields, shouldn't it be entirely government funded?

That's like the Internal Revenue Service asking for donations to do their job, which in a way, they do!

It's not just government funded, although the feds should probably contribute more considering all the credit they want to take for it. The sports organizations are supposed to be contributing. Perhaps they need to contribute more due to the vast increase in complaints because they have been looking the other way all these years.

The financial shortfalls for funding Safe Sport were in the news a couple months ago.
