A heads-up that Tatyana Navka’s Swan Lake ice show (90-min w/o ads) will be telecast this afternoon, beginning at 3:50PM eastern-US time on Russia Channel One (3229 on Comcast cable in the Washington,DC area).

If Channel One follows its usual practice, the show should appear on its YouTube channel a day or two later. Link to the general channel:

Once it drops - Whoever finds a direct link, please feel free to post it here!

This article in English previews the show. It includes a short commercial. Very beautiful!

Oh, my…what a gorgeous televised show, which just ended on Channel One! 💕 I don’t want to give away the surprises, since the stream will appear on YouTube soon & all of you will have a chance to see for yourselves. 🦢

Suffice to reveal -
It’s not exactly a slavish transfer of the stage ballet to ice but a tasteful adaptation to fit into 90 minutes minus intermission.

Hint: The Prince (Peter Tchenrnichev) choses between two sisters - a White and a Black Swan (Navka & Margarita Dobriazgo, respectively). Povilas Vanagas is the Magician. Ivan Righini a Dark Shade.

The original musical score draws heavily on not only Tchaikovsky’s SL ballet but also from several other compositions, e.g., even bits of the 1812 Overture. Rest assured the best-known tunes from the traditional ballet remain.

The only slightly negative bit is a flashback to when the two little girl-cygnets were captured and enslaved…one of the two adorable little skaters being Navka’s 7-yr-old daughter.

Rich production values - costumes, lighting and some amazing “flight effects”…including the stars, soaring high over the rink. Fabulous skating from all soloists and ensemble!

Ok - I’ll leave it there. I hope that the YouTube version drops and you can judge for yourselves.

Per chance does anyone have access to the Swan Lake done by Soloviev and Ilinykh three years ago? It may not have the specials effects of this show but it was really cool.

St Petersburg has had an ice ballet company for many years. They do the more traditional ballets in proscenium theaters - like John Curry tried to do in the early ‘80s - such as Swan Lake:

The current Navka show is very different, in an arena, not proscenium theater, and reimagined for modern family audiences. It just hints at the traditional story, uses new music in parts, incorporates flight effects, etc.
Fan film bit, until yesterday’s Russian TV film drops:
Includes pas de deux of Navka & Tchernichev, and the final fight between Tchernichev and Vanagas.

Nice. Really like the staging. But the production and quality of skating and acting with I/S and Arthur Gatshinsky (cannot spell his name) and others was really special. I hope I find that video one day.

Interesting. Never heard of that version, sorry…just that Ilinykh & Katsalapov skated the Swan Lake FD at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Here’s the full Navka Show - SWAN LAKE… but seems to be fan cam…drat. I give up. :) If anyone finds the Russia One telecast, please post here.
