The 70th edition of Miss USA is tonight at 8pm eastern, live on both FYI cable TV and HULU streaming, from Tulsa, OK. The US representative to next month’s Miss Universe (in Israel, Dec 12) will be crowned. The 51 contestants can be seen in the link below…who is your favorite? I’m hoping for Texas, Pennsylvania or FLORIDA…and not just because the latter is a fellow Boricua! ?

The representative from Kansas is the daughter of the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs. I don't think she needs the prize money.

I agree but that’s the official site. I’ll see if I can find a fan site/FB page with more candid shots taken at pageant events…and I did…this fan FB site includes more natural candid shots of both the USA and Teen USA contestants. (Teen USA was selected a day or two ago)

The photos have a stylized finish that looks like an early '90's cover shot. It's not a very interesting choice, and makes the contestants forgettable because no one stands out, and they all look the same.
 
Only 9 are Blondes? I always associated beauty queens with the blonde cheerleader type.

It's nice to see some diversity.
 
I like the only girl with the short sassy hair - the only one who dares to be a smidge different. All have that heavy contouring/bronzing going on which is so popular right now, but never looks quite right close up, more theatrical to me. (A couple of them I thought at first glance were Gabby Daleman :lol:)
But the only part of pageants I like is the gowns anyways - all those fabulous dresses!

That’s Pennsylvania with the short & sassy hair…one of the favorites to win. Great choice!
 
Israel is going ahead with the Miss Universe pageant, despite international travel worries due to the Omicron variant. They have a great track record with controlling the ****** & knowing what to do in these situations.

Some of the early-arriving contestants are there, including Miss Philippines.

Miss USA selection is happening late this year…crowning tonight, then she’s off to Miss Universe in a couple of days. Finals are on Dec 12 8pm est…or 2am at the venue in Israel. Yikes!

Reminds me of the early 1960s, when USA and Universe took place in the same week in Miami…and in the ‘50s in Long Beach. It was already popular in Puerto Rico, even back then.

UPDATE on Universe/Israel -
Oh dear…one (unnamed) contestant tested positive for the crud, even though she had tested negative before taking her flight.

Congrats to Kentucky - Elle Smith, age 23, a reporter - on the win! She now goes to Israel to compete in Miss Universe (Dec 12).

Two of my three pre-faves (Florida & Texas) made the finals but, alas, not "short-n-sassy hair" Pennsylvania. In general, the gowns were disappointing…trend in asymmetrical cuts and bright colors (all-fuschia or all-orange, for ex). My Florida & Texas didn’t disappoint, though. Latinas know how to do ultra-glam evening gowns.
