Well, if you're not interested in seeing I, Tonya, there's this...

The Hollywood Reporter brings word of Vestige, a brand new science fiction movie starring Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler, Sin City, Iron Man 2), Analeigh Tipton, and Anne Heche. Billed as "Ex Machina meets Black Swan and Whiplash," the movie envisions a dystopian future in which humans and androids face off in sporting competitions.

Tipton will play a young, aspiring figure skater who, along with backhanded "help" from her overbearing mother (Heche) and her surly coach (Rourke) must fight for a chance to compete against robots in the Winter Olympics.

Cursory googling didn't give me updates on this project but I sure hope this one is still in the works & coming along.:watch:

Has anybody heard anything?

For years, I have been asking for a Showgirls program in skating but this movie sounds like it could actually be the Showgirls (or Citizen Kane) of figure skating movies!

Even if Vestige is never produced, surely someone can be bribed to create a program with the same story--a tortured skater living in a world of androids who's embroiled in a tumultuous relationship with a prostitute. It has everything: sexuality, drama, the lifts and footwork practically choreography themselves, and endless opportunities for voiceovers.

If Anissina and Peizerat return to the competitive ice and skate that program, I'm pretty sure it would actually be my favorite thing that ever happened in skating. (Sorry, Olga Markova's boa and whoever created Mysliveckova's Roger Rabbit program.)

However, if the soundtrack to Vestige involves Michael Buble, Ed Sheeran, Josh Groban, any popera, or whiny singer/songer writers of pop classics, then I take it all back.

Why not both? Showgirl meets Citizen Kane... ON ICE!!! :watch::watch::watch:

That's even better than the spiel about "Ex Machina meets Black Swan and Whiplash" thing they gave us, TBH. Bring on those pole dancing robots... er, I mean figure skating robots!

Oh dear. A dystopian future where Bublé and Groban still reign supreme in the world of Olympic figure skating? I didn't even think of that possibility and now I am afraid :yikes: :scream:

Some soundtrack suggestions: Daft Punk, Deadmau5, Alt-J, Skrillex, maybe some late 1990s throwbacks like the Prodigy or Marilyn Manson. Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor would work, too.
