Pretty much the podium fight is the trio of Russians and Rika which is how it was going to play out last year.

I think Bradie has a clear path to 5th: Clearer than last year when she had Young You standing in the way.

The bigger question for 6th is how solid are Sakamoto, Miyahara and Hendrickx these days. I did not see JPN Nationals. Isn't Hendrickx coming off injury? Can Karen Chen penetrate the rankings here to get a placement for 3 US ladies in 2022? The Korean ladies didn't seem too sharp at Nationals and Young won't be here. It's more muddled

Kaori looked good at both NHK and Japanese Nats, Satoko was only at Japanese Nats and it wasn't her best. She is the clear Japanese #3 at this time, IMO.

Hendrickx would be my dark horse pick for a surprise top 6 finish but I don't think she has the tech to beat LaTuk or clean programs from Kaori or Bradie.

I think it's possible for Karen to sneak into 8th with clean programs but we'll see.

Bradie, the Belgian, and the Russian pornagrapher. In no particular order. Full disclosure. I do not follow ladies skating outside the United States closely.
ANL needs a new poll. Thats more my jam lately.
Coincidently,I also have had an insatiable appetite for polls recently. The lengthier, the better.

I used to like to handicap by reviewing scores and score progression over the course of the current season, but since this has been such an abnormal season due to YKW, there were no real competitions to review and scores to tally. I think a deciding factor will be those federations / countries who got their skaters to compete in the best possible way. In that sense, the one unique thing to this season would be the US, RUS, JPN and CHN skaters are more ready. Europe, CAN and KOR had more issues getting out there. But it's just a theory

ETA - Does anyone have an opinion on who has the edge between Bradie and Kaori at the moment?? I think that would really speak to US chances for 3 ladies in 2022. I understand that Satoko hasn't looked all that great for a time even extending back before YKW. Where is Loena amongst these 3 skaters?

Assuming that Karen finishes behind Bradie and Kaori / Satoko (can Karen beat Satoko), does she skate well enough to beat Loena or the KOR entries? They didn't skate so well at their recent national contest.

Tursy is out again. Other skaters doing well recently are Kurakova and Paganini.

I think this year's ladies event will be really interesting. I think the podium is any mix of Trus, Shch, Rika... Fourth could be Kaori, Bradie or Liza(!), and after that anything goes really... Beyond the Japanese and Americans, we'll see where the young Koreans end up, and Loena just scored her personal best of 204.68 at Challenge Cup! I've missed her.

If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.

It's so hard to judge on a shortened season. I think it'll be a surprise and shocking finish.

I'm sorry that You Young and Eunsoo Lim did so poorly at the Korean Championships. At their best, they would have been in the mix as well.

She won 2 Euro comps this season the more recent one just last week in Netherlands. She was amazing
Yes, she was amazing last week!
If she can repeat those performances, I would first of all have her in 3rd/4th place after the SP (1st Kira with her 3A followed by Anna S without 3A and Liza with 3A). In the LP, I think Leona will attempt one less triple jump (3 Loop?) and I think it will costly even against some of the triple jumps only ladies (Bradie, Kaori and the current Korean champion) so if she manage to hold onto a top 6 place, I would consider it a great achievement overall.

Yelim and the 2nd Korean lady (sorry, I have forgotten her name) are of course good skaters but I don't understand the decision not to send You. Even without the 3A, You has great technical skills and I like her programs this year. Yelim has beautiful jumps but there is still some excitement missing to her skating. The 2nd lady (Lee?) really was something on the junior circuit but did not look as sharp during those Korean competitions.

Jackie Wong's predictions for the top 15 ladies:

He'll be discussing the ladies live on his Instagram in about 1 hour (at 5pm PT / 8pm ET / Monday 9am in Japan) - ETA link to watch the archived IGTV video: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CMs5Yp4Jp0w/
OK. I can stomach Jackie more than TSL; at least he puts Bradie fairly even w/ Kaori and TBF, Karen is going to need to rotate and get help from the some of the ladies above her to get the US 3 spots. So, I am fine w/ a prediction of her placing 10th

Both TSL and Jackie are more bullish on Rika than I am: TSL has Rika 2nd and Jackie has her winning (!) I honestly see this to be a competition between 2 Russians.

Kostornaia placed below Tuktamysheva at the Russian Cup Final last month and so Tukt. got the 3rd spot.

Karen Chen-focused article by Phil Hersh today:
Chen, third at this year’s U.S. Championships, got the second spot for Sweden over runner-up Amber Glenn based on criteria that take into account results at events over two seasons.

Pardon me, I somehow missed. What happened with Kostornaia and Amber Glenn?

Amber Glenn was passed over by USFSA for Karen Chen despite Amber being the US silver medalist.

I still agree it’s the wrong decision and agree with Megan Duhamel. Neither one would medal at worlds and it’s going to be difficult but not impossible for the US ladies to achieve three spots for the Olympics next year.

Some think that Karen will achieve higher PCS from an international panel although she frequently gets dinged for under rotations. I thought Amber was on a roll especially with her triple axels she’s been practicing and should’ve been awarded for a world spot but hopefully Karen can come through

That is AWFUL. You are right. It would be difficult to get 3 spots anyway. Amber Glenn deserved that spot and has been trying for years to get a spot. I think she would have done well. Bummer. And Kostornaia???

She did not do well at the Russian cup final and was beaten by her Russian competitors

I also think she’s not doing the triple axels this past season
