ICE-DANCING VS. DISTANCE ON ICE

Ok, I'm going to try to explain this the best I can. But what I was wondering about is...How do you put (or) get distance on the ice while Ice-Dancing? Or do you just dance a different way on ice then you do on a Dance Floor? Also does it also depend on if you have a Partner or doing Solo? Thanks.

When you first learn an ice dance pattern you focus on getting the edges and timing right and you tend to skate a little slower. This makes a smaller pattern. To make the pattern fill out the whole rink you need to skate faster. You do that by bending your ankles and knees and pressing on the edges to create more power. if you're dancing solo you have to create all the power by yourself. If you're skating with a partner they help do some of the work.

The motion of dancing on ice is completely different from dancing on the floor. You're not balancing on two narrow blades when you're dancing on the floor. And a dance floor is not as slippery as ice.
