"Devin and Juliet Meek are sibling figure skaters, champions from Jacksonville and currently the top novice [pair] team in the United States." Video (Dec. 28, 2024):
On Saturday morning they stopped by Good Morning Jacksonville to describe how they started in the sport, the training they go through to succeed in figure skating and the challenges they have to overcome by competing in a winter sport with limited ice availability in Northeast Florida.

Thanks for the heads up. I've just replied in the U.S. Women's thread: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/u-s-women-7-make-me-a-believer.112409/page-2#post-6710272

Cross-posting here from the U.S. Pairs news thread in GSD [I watched to the end of this video only yesterday] - For a fun moment watch until the end of the video segment! :)

TV anchor/reporter at First Coast News Rich Donnelly after watching the sibling Novice pair team of Devin & Juliet Meek demonstrate a lasso lift [to one arm, including set down] on the studio floor: "Holy smokes! Juliet, you're like 10 feet in the air! And you guys do this on skates too... that's very impressive!" (Donnelly initially sounded surprised/taken aback and his reaction made me )

Continuing to post pre-Nationals articles on the "lesser-known skaters" in this thread (ETA - also linked in U.S. Pairs news thread):

Sydney Cooke and Matthew Kennedy prepare for senior [pairs] Nationals debut in Wichita (Jan. 8): https://figureskatersonline.com/new...repare-for-senior-nationals-debut-in-wichita/
“I do like the amount of time we have in our program as seniors,” the 22-year-old Cooke said. “In juniors, I always felt like we were rushed. The quality of skating in general – everybody skates as a team. In juniors, sometimes you really had two singles skaters skating at once. We really had to work to skate as one.”
The team is in the midst of a comeback. Cooke sprained her ankle on one of her attempts on a triple twist, and they lost the entire summer. Although they continued to skate during the injury, Cooke could not put weight on her landing foot. In the fall, they competed in two national qualifying series events — Middle Atlantic Figure Skating Championships and Boston Open, where they finished first and second respectively. They won the silver medal at the Pairs Final in November.
“I feel as prepared as possible for how much time we have had,” the 23-year-old Kennedy said. “We’ve definitely grown as skaters. Neither of us are where we want to be right now, and we are excited to show fans what we have when we have a full year as seniors.”

Evanston, Illinois RoundTable (Jan. 9) - photo by Richard Cahan:
Take a walk around the track of the Robert Crown Community Center most every afternoon and you might see singles skaters Lorenzo Elano and Alina Bonillo practicing for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas. Elano qualified for the junior men’s competition and Bonillo for the [Senior] women’s event. Both 17, they each train about 20 hours a week — mostly at Crown — and teach skating.

Copying over my post from the US Men's thread:

Jason has withdrawn from US Nats

For those who can't access IG, Jason wrote that he has been facing a series of challenges adjusting to an equipment change and has been unable to train and compete at a level he expects of himself. He's working with his team to resolve this and return to competition soon.

Who is the next alternate? I wonder if there is time for a replacement. Men SP isn't until Sat.

So glad Taira can make it. So sad that my autocorrect wants it to be “tiara” every damn time I type it.

I like the idea of Nats without Jason - let’s see how the men can do this year. Could be nice to see them skating knowing there’s a better chance to get on the world team.
