Ok...this came to me today. So,I thought I would ask you all this question....and you need not be a Skater to answer this...but...who hear has actually dreamed about competing someday...and in which Discipline? I have always dreamed of competing in Ice-Dance.

I can't say I dream about it, because I actually have competed in all those disciplines except pairs. It was low-level, though, and nothing like what you see on television.

I competed in junior ladies in Canada (never made it to Canadians, though). I could land all my triples, yet somehow couldn't get a consistent double axel (my nemesis!!!) I was actually working on triple-triples (just for fun on days my coach wasn't there) and had some success (1/3 turn short on the second triple) yet still, the double axel wouldn't happen.

Anyway, I actually wanted to do pairs, but my parents wouldn't let me, since it would have required moving away from home. I'd trained out of town for summers, including taking 'lift classes' for fun, where I'd been told I'd be a natural in pairs, but alas...

Have you thought about adult skating? Midori Ito has done Oberstdorf, and there’s the ISU event in Canada now.

I've never really thought about adult skating. Once I quit, I finally went from looking like a 10 year old boy to a teenaged girl within 2 weeks. I went back on the ice about a month after I quit, couldn't even land a double salchow, and had some pretty bad falls.

It's been 15+ years since I quit and I now actually hate being on the ice, because I can't do anything I used to be able to do, and I don't have the patience to try to re-learn everything from scratch.

I still enjoy watching the sport, though!!

@screech, I get that. I wasn’t at your level, but I had no problem getting my singles back (except for the axel which I had a love/hate affair with) - but I was never able to regain my doubles. I did qualify once for the championship gold event at US Adult Nationals (one of the two highlights of my adult freestyle career), but was never able to live up to my potential.

That said, I discovered a wonderful world outside of freestyle. Synchro and dance, two disciplines that I did very little of as a kid. I’m having the time of my life skating, 37 years after I quit as a teen.

So if it’s not something that interests you now, it may in the future. :). Until then, enjoy watching!
