A deadly apartment building fire has killed 19 in Bronx NY. According to the news it was caused by a space heater! Those little things can be dangerous! Thoughts and prayers to the victims and their loved ones.

There have been far too many fires lately. I am worried (and there is some evidence to support this) that skyrocketing energy prices are causing people to turn off their central heating in favor of significantly less safe options - e.g., fireplaces, space heaters, etc.

In the case of the Bronx fire, heat was included in the rent. That doesn’t mean there aren’t cold spots in the units, though. I need a space heater at my computer workstation in the northwest corner of the house.

At least 2 of the bad NYC fires were caused by charging e bikes. The lithium ion batteries caught fire. One started in a restaurant below the apts where employees were charging 9 e bikes, and another was caused by someone charging 14 e bikes in their apartment ( hopefully not all at once). Apparently replacement batteries are particularly dangerous.
