Brian Boitano was emcee yesterday for First Lady Jill Biden's opening of the White House holiday rink on the South Lawn.
(It apparently is the first since 1980, when the Carters built one for performances by Peggy Fleming. Historical photos are in AP and NBC articles below.)

In addition to Boitano, performers yesterday included: Kim Navarro (who now is skating director of Snoopy's Home Ice) and her partner Snoopy; skaters from Capital Theatre on Ice, and Adagio pairs skaters David Faria Oliveira and Carlina Justine Ramirez.

"The 50-by-70-foot (15.2-by-21.3-meter) rink will operate throughout December, but the White House did not specify days and hours. Washington, D.C.-area schoolchildren and children from families with service members, frontline workers, first responders and teachers will be invited to skate." (excerpt from AP article)

In the words of Jill Biden: "What’s more magical, wonderful, and joyful than an ice rink on the South Lawn of the White House?"
