With Wayne Gretzky in the arena, Washington Capitals (NHL) Captain Alex Ovechkin scored two goals to tie Gretzky’s goal-scoring record of 894, and he declined his coaches’s offer to be on a power play, where he could have surpassed the record with an empty-netter
He also broke the great Jaromir Jagr’s record of 135 game-winning goals.

The record-tying goal had the entire Capitals team spilling onto the ice, followed by an extended celebration where Ovechkin took several laps, fist-bumped his son Sergei who was sitting on the glass, bowed to the suite where Gretzky was sitting and blew kisses to the crowd.
