Who will go to Worlds with Amber? That’s the poll that we need…unless Isabeau was automatically named and I missed the flash bulletin.

Here is the 2024 Worlds Selection document...

Quoting from it - I don't think any woman without a strong/steady international record will be in the mix. One bad event or ill-timed injury at Nationals is far less detrimental to a skater's chances of selection than it used to be. And one great skate isn't enough to get you on the team or a higher alternate spot.

It has been the experience of U.S. Figure Skating that the athletes who have hadsuccess at the international level are those who have demonstrated consistentperformances as opposed to the athletes who have only a single great performance. Therefore, by not having the selection process based solely on one event, U.S. FigureSkating can select the best athletes to represent the United States at the ISU WorldFigure Skating Championships.

Sarah has been crushing it nationally all season, but has not had many international opportunities. Her skate and result at Nationals only came out of nowhere for people who have not been looking at domestic results this season. I think 4CC will tell the tale of where the other top skaters are at.

She did have one JGP and did respectably there, but nothing to set the world afire. I was thinking this morning that her team would do well to take the Ziegler route with her next season and focus on senior internationals rather than toiling any longer at the junior level. Still doesn't mean I'd make her an alternate for Worlds this year, though.

Yes, this is perfect USFS conservative thinking, and they often fail to strike while the iron is hot. I am not begrudging anyone who gets named, but I sometimes wonder if all of this cautious work and sticking with those who have had many chances and not quite rose to the occasion (I don't mean Ziegler or Thorngren, or Amber or Isabeau in this, all have had success), is really helping anyone. That said, I don't know if either Ava or Lindsay are in top form right now, and if they WD or underperform at 4CC, I think Sarah is the only one age-eligible for Worlds who I would feel secure in having any chance at a top 10 finish, right now. If she even has the chance to get the mins, which it sounds like may be too late, or almost too late. But interesting conversation to have anyway. If she finished 2nd instead of 4th (totally plausible scenario had Josephine not risen to the occasion and Isabeau marked more harshly), I am curious where public opinion would be on this issue.

I think Audrey Shin, glorious skater she is becoming, needs to do something drastic like go to Mishin or similar to retool her jumps if she plans to continue. I want to see her have a fighting chance in a few years but I don't know that her current coaching team has the ability to help.

Audrey is mostly in Virginia now, working with Ilia's parents, so she might eventually fix her jumps but it's a work in progress for sure.

I don't think the USFS can get Sarah entered at Challenge Cup or any of the other events ahead of Sr Worlds. Maybe the best set-up for her going into next season is the JWC assignment and some ISU Championship points from that?

Junior worlds and then Coupe du Printemps to hopefully get the minimums taken care of (for next season). FWIW I suspect her training mate Kazanecki will be assigned to Coupe du Printemps too.
