I mean, no point putting Patrick on, but who do you see in spots 2 and 3?

Love to see Nic deliver.
Love him
The most excited I've been for an up and comer for a while.
Think he's the whole package.
Just needs to not be injured and learn to be a better competitor.

Elladj program was fantastic and he really performed but the jumps weren't there at all last night.

I’m not convinced Patrick won’t withdrawal at this point. I mean obviously if he wants to go to the Olympics he’ll be put on the team but he’s in Vancouver now and the extent of his training at the moment. There’s conflicting talk, I don’t know what’s true, but he has been open about motivation being an issue in the fluff pieces this season so it all seems up in the air.

I'm guessing Kevin and Keegan, hopefully the first isn't just wishful thinking, but I hope he gets it together by then.

Do you know for sure? Yes we know he is in the Vancouver area and not in Detroit but there are rinks around there and skating coaches. There were a lot of really good skaters at challenge from BC and not coached by Joanne Mcloud.

Is this information you actually know or just decided to post as 'fact' to get a rise out of people?

I don’t know specifics but I heard that Marina openly said he was in Vancouver getting psychological help recently. I actually think it’s a good idea and assume it’s to help prepare for the Olympics, but it just gave me the impression that things are open ended/undecided right now. Of course, he could be training and working with a psychologist at the same time, so I guess it doesn’t really mean anything,

And again, this is something I just heard, it could just be gossip.

"isn't even training right now and motivation is lacking" seems pretty conclusive. Why not just say, "I'm not sure if he's training right now?" I find it really obnoxious to question a skater's level of motivation even when you have firsthand info, which you said you don't have (but thanks for being honest now at least). I don't mean to lecture, but there's enough going on this season without having to sift out fake news...

There have been various posts on social media of him at rinks in the Vancouver area, so he must be doing at least some training there.

As for Marina, the only thing she's said publicly as far as I know is here, which is pretty vague.

There was a link posted in Patrick's thread to a Facebook Live with PJ Kwong recently in which she says that she's heard Patrick has every intention of competing at Nationals and Olympics. https://www.facebook.com/SkatingPj/videos/1768928616458901/

As for the actual topic of this thread, I would love for Liam Firus to medal at Nationals and get a spot for Worlds, especially since he gave up his spot last time. Based on the results this season, I think Keegan Messing has a decent shot at the podium.

YES! Liam is the most frustrating skater to cheer for, because his skating is so beautiful, but his consistent inconsistency is just GAH! But he's nailed a few quads this year, finally landed a clean 3A (with +GOE IIRC), and stood up on another one, and has one of my favourite LP of the men this year (plus the SP that got me liking Mika last year). I'd love for that redemption to come.
And Keegan is entertaining, a good spinner, and has some good jumps. I'd love to see him achieve such a big goal!!

I updated my post to make it clear I don’t know anything specific. Talk and tweets and vague articles aren’t conclusive and some are contradicting each other. I’m sorry for sounding nasty or decisive. As they say, talk is cheap. Hopefully Patrick himself will give an update soon. I just hope he’s doing better, he seemed really down and subdued at Skate Canada.

Patrick is one skater I hope writes a tell-all book after he retires. I know that is not very Canadian and probably won't happen but I just think he would have a lot to say - if he chose to say it.
