2026 Olys Womens FS PBP - Missed Full of Horrors

When Alysa won worlds last year in the gold dress I figured we'd never see that again because skaters are generally too superstitious to wear gold when they have a chance to win (see: Sasha Cohen's 2006 FS dress changing from gold at Nats to burgundy at the Olys). But Alysa just doubled down wearing another gold dress here when she was clearly a contender for the win. Girls got balls.

And the only woman in the final group with a gold dress or even gold accents on the dress. She really was dressed for the top of the podium tonight!

Scoring machinations aside, I think this is the right podium in the right order. The chutzpah to wear gold and get gold is

I would not have lost sleep if Amber or Mone had been third instead. Kaori actually looks really happy. Ice dancers, what? This is the REAL Olympics. Pairs and women really were great events.

As much as I really wanted the win for Kaori it's hard not to be happy for Alysa and just in general it's so nice to see a happy podium, especially after the drama from four years ago.

I think with a little time Kaori will be able to look back and see how amazing her accomplishments over her career have been even if these Olympics didn't 100% go the way she hoped.

I knew after Alysa's skate that she had won gold just like she did at Worlds and her saying, "What the hell! What the hell! What the hell!" It's that McArthur's Park program! I'm so glad she decided to do that program because she totally rocks with McArthur's Park!

Way to go, Alysa! I'm so proud of Amber and she was so happy that she didn't fall at the Olympics! Kaori was spectacular, and she has true sportsmanship! And Alysa was so sweet to Ami!

Congrats to all three on the podium!

Also, congratulations to Japan for having two women on the podium for the first time!

And 13 women with 200+ scores tonight (and Loena just missing the 200 mark by .35) - that's got to be some sort of record! Also, a clear message to Russia that the women's discipline is doing just fine without them and their cheated jumps.

To think - 185+ was only good enough for 18th place! This was really a remarkably well-skated competition!
