International Chopin Competition: Prelims

I`m watching a bit - more than a bit. I went in 2015; one`s I was sure about for the final were lack luster in other rounds. First round so tiersome. So much the same thing over and over. I can`t imagine how your ears stay fresh. I guess the bigger jury evens things out. At least 10 paying attention to any one pianist.🤭

Just heard Olson talking about these rushed Waltzes in the 1st round. So true. Even great pianists like Eric Lu arbitrarily increased tempos during his. I think people aren`t taught these so much.

I think most of these pianists need to take dance class. It's not just the waltzes.

They announced the ~40 pianists who made it into the second round:

I'm really far behind, but I've been enjoying a lot of the first round playing. I felt bad for Maiqi Wu: There's was lots of piano moving sounds after the previous pianist. Wu was announced and the audience applauded, but she was in the waiting area when then they started moving pianos around again, so I assume they set up the wrong one. She had to wait until they got set-up, but that must have been rattling.

I really like the way the Yamaha and Kawai pianos sound. Maybe that's self-selection by the pianists, but I've been enjoying them a lot.
