I love, love, love Matsuike but she has a habit of messing up her SP before skating a glorious free. Wakaba is not always consistent. Chiba, though, cool as a cucumber, my money is on her to win.

I think Kim and Liu have as good a shot to medal as the two other Japanese women.

While I don't see her medalling here, I would love to see how Bradie Tennell would fare if she were to finally execute her FS without glaring errors. I think the international judges are still waiting for her to deliver this season. I specifically remember that had she not popped her second 3Lutz pass, she would've won Skate America. Similarly, I remember that the mistakes she made at NHK arithmetically cost her a medal.

We got to see this FS! That was so exciting. So happy for Bradie and her silver medal. She's one tough cookie.

If Jimmy Ma's pleasant surprise wasn't enough, we have Bradie Tennell also scoring some major Body of Work points here! Surely she had to have known how crucial it was to medal here (amidst quite a deep field!), yet she looked calmer here than she has all season. Her dream of a 2nd Olympic berth is very much alive!

RE: Mone Chiba -- The second she looks to me to be on the cusp of reaching that highest echelon, gravity brings her back down to Earth.

I really thought she'd medal -- even stealthily challenge Kaori and Loena for the title! -- at Worlds last year after finishing 2nd at Japanese Nationals and then winning Four Continents.

This season, she was killer at the Grand Prix Final, only to fail to medal at Japanese Nationals (which I kinda sorta forgave since it was so close to the Grand Prix Final) and here at Four Continents.

She looked entirely exhausted at the end of her free skate. Maybe she had been ill and not recuperated. Wishing her a better result at Worlds.
