Music rights clearance issues (policy being implemented by the ISU starting in 2024)

But there have been a fair number of skaters since his death that have skated to Prince at the Olympics since his death. It's not like it's a 0% chance it will work. Maybe it's song to song?

Prince was really stingy about rights when he was alive, but his estate has not cared at all. I'm not surprised he had no issues.

2025-26 US Pairs Discussion - Milano-Bound By Way of Beijing & St. Louis

She's worked with several notable US pairs. I believe Cain/LeDuc even went to Russia every summer to work with her. Perhaps there's some connections there.

Repercussions of Papadakis' book & Cizeron's response

It's HARD to get banned. Plenty of rapists both in court and in sport have gotten away with it because there's "not enough evidence." There being enough evidence in this case really says something about the likelihood of him being guilty. Well that and the fact that his defense was a legal...

Music rights clearance issues (policy being implemented by the ISU starting in 2024)

@NinjaTurtles I believe it was. The first two movies were made and produced by Fox, while the third movie (where the Like a Prayer cover is from) was produced by Disney/Marvel for the MCU. That likely affects things. ETA: Come to think of it, Disney, despite being known as copyright fiends...

Music rights clearance issues (policy being implemented by the ISU starting in 2024)

Ashes was made for the Deadpool movie, so it's quite possible that Fox or whoever produced the soundtrack has a copyright stake in that song that they wouldn't have in any of her other music.

Repercussions of Papadakis' book & Cizeron's response

@MacMadame Which is what is making me side-eye IAM so hard. Sorensen is one of the FEW skaters that had enough evidence against them to be banned and yet IAM is allowing him at the rink.

Music rights clearance issues (policy being implemented by the ISU starting in 2024)

As far as I know, USFS has a database as such. You can check if your music has rights issues or not before the season - and skaters are required to do so. I thought the ISU also shared what music libraries worked for them and there were no issues up until now even with the music needing to be...

Repercussions of Papadakis' book & Cizeron's response

@Allskate I'm not sure why you're bringing Gabi into this? I didn't accuse her of calling skating fans soft? I am accusing (some - mostly Facebook/twitter) skating fans of being soft because they were so immediately offended by what was coming out about the book - or even the release date -...

Repercussions of Papadakis' book & Cizeron's response

Nah. It's totally soft. A huge part of commentary is context and narrative. NBC tries to provide this, but perhaps because of negative feedback like this just doesn't provide any feedback fans deem "rude" or "rumors." Narrative - including rumors - help provide a LOT of context to certain...

Repercussions of Papadakis' book & Cizeron's response

See - and this is where ITA that figure skating fans are soft. "Rumor" is a very, very common thing in sports journalism. Not skating - although it should be given the way that "Rumor: Papadakis trashes Cizeron in new book" may have lessened the blow from fans who are now never going to read...

Repercussions of Papadakis' book & Cizeron's response

As I said in my post, this was not "out of favor" in the context that USFS hates him. No, USFS still loves him. It was "out of favor" in the sense that USFS wasn't seeing him as a good choice for the Olympic team any more, while they were viewing Tomoki Hiwatashi more favorably for the Olympic...

Repercussions of Papadakis' book & Cizeron's response

There's a lot of people who took it really personally that Johnny said a lot of people backstage didn't want Jason on the team. He didn't say Jason had a poor reputation, just that his stock for the Olympic team was down - which is completely understandable. He also said Tomoki's stock was up...

2025-26 US Pairs Discussion - Milano-Bound By Way of Beijing & St. Louis

I hope they do continue! They're a truly special pair. And while she does want to go to med school, living in Boston there's plenty of places for her to build an amazing resume for med school: working part time in their medical centers, doing lab work, taking prerequisites... Maybe even doing a...

Repercussions of Papadakis' book & Cizeron's response

I think a lot of people are mad at Gabby because they think she paints Guillame as some monster. But what I've read sounds like an emotionally mature reflection - she says he did bad stuff to her, but she doesn't entirely blame him or leave herself blameless. Even in the scenario where he comes...
