Missing Men at the Olympics since 1984

IMO Plushenko's PCS for that fairly empty long program were inflated as they were. Yes his loss was entirely his own fault. He gave up some easy places to gain points, purely out of arrogance. Which makes no sense, I would get that in 2006, but he was in no way in a class of his own like 2006...

Missing women at the Olympics since 1984

This thread was inspired by Olympic's amazing thread on missing men at the Olympics since 1984. 1984 women- Vikki De Vries, Denise Biellmann, Kristina Wegelius, Claudia Kristofics Binder, Tracy Wainmann, Debbie Cottril Appropriate we start with the women as this is where the list is by far the...

Missing Men at the Olympics since 1984

Todd was 4th at Nationals 94 where he skated a terrible LP, so hypothetically it seems he would not have made the team even without Boitano back, although maybe he is held up and given the 2nd spot over Nielsen without Boitano now anyway. It is possible he medals in Lillehammer with how the...

Missing Men at the Olympics since 1984

Sabovcik actually had a really good shot to win the 86 worlds. Especialy with Fadeev bigtime and to a lesser extent Orser blowing the long program. The judges would have favored him over Boitano at that point in time, he had won the Europeans over World Champion Fadeeva that same year, was 2nd...

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

and from the same one who was guaranteeing Lajoie & Lagha were a cinch to pass the Danadians too.

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

True, I could see maybe then. But I could also see that giving them more impetus to try for a home country worlds in Montreal next year. It is hard to say. I guess it will be interesting to see what Gilles & Poirier do regardless. Chock & Bates too to some extent.

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

Are you just assuming Gilles & Poirier are retiring? I think there is almost no chance that happens with worlds in Montreal next year. Maybe after Montreal worlds depending on everything, but no way before then, particularly with some great results this season. In fact even in a worst case...

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

Personally I think Guignard & Fabbri are clearly better than both teams this year, but the judges don't seem to care per usual. JMO

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

I would guess the Finns, but I agree it being key they are probably benefitting from a lot of home court advantage so far this year, and worlds is neutral territory.

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

I don't see them being scored over either Fournier Beaudry & Sorensen or Fear & Gibson if both teams skate well. Even less likely now with lost training time. As I mentioned before FB & S are mistake prone so mistakes by them that drop them wouldn't be any huge surprise, but it would take...

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

I think Guignard & Fabbri managing to do better than a bronze, particularly with Gilles & Poirier a question mark, is much more likely than Fourier Beaudry & Sorensen somehow finishing above them.

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

Yes I think a medal at worlds for the Danadians is still quite unlikely, unless Gilles & Poirier don't skate, are pretty unprepared for worlds, which I see no indication (yet) to feel that would be the case. I don't see them likely beating Guignard & Fabbri regardless how the European scores...

The Dance Hall 10: The Saitama Samba 2022-2023

I think it is both. The scoring system plays a big part I believe, but also todays teams are just better skaters (collectively, there were some exceptional skaters in top teams past but far fewer than today).

    Craig Simpson & Jamie Sale

The fact is being such a public figure makes her views on things like that far more dangerous than just a regular person. Even if most surely won't believe her, there still will be some who do just because she is Jamie Sale, celebrity, former Canadian sweetheart, Olympic and World Champion.

    2023 Worlds Dance Podium Poll

I think it is fairly obvious what the podium will be, so long as Gilles & Poirier make it to worlds, the only question is the order of finish. I think it could go literally anyway amongst the 3. It would take a major error by 1 of those 3 teams for one of the second tier contenders to sneak in...
