    U.S. Men in 2018 - articles & latest news

The arguments supporting the UR penalty here are all rather poor. Saying "we cannot reward jumps fully that aren't properly executed" is not much of an argument and misses the point. Why should a UR cost more than an overrotated jump? Why should a UR cost more than a jump with a touch...

There is no basic logic in a points system that gives a clean 3 lutz more points than a 3.75 lutz. :shuffle:

    U.S. Men in 2018 - articles & latest news

..anyway, Vincent was most certainly at least 2nd best of the night. He could have been 1st arguably, but he does have some UR issues. I'm really impressed by how Nathan is developing as a performer. I still agree that his skating skills are not as good as say, Hanyu, Uno, or Kolyada. But they...

Would agree here. Nathan has no need to rush with the quads. He should take his time and not think about World placements right now. Especially since his spot on the World team, at this rate, seems pretty secure!

Overall, a pretty decent showing for US men. Nathan Chen is not anywhere near his level last year jump-wise, but it's fine. He put out a solid program with nice presentation and needs time to adjust to his new academic demands. Vincent also skated well and would have been at least 2nd if not for...

2018-2019 Canadian Ladies News and Updates!

I don't necessarily believe Alaine should have gone to the Olympics. However, it really was a toss-up at Nationals over whether Austman and Chartrand should have been 3rd. That to me is the best argument for having sent Alaine to PC.

Japanese figure skating 2018-19 season news & updates

I was very impressed with Rika's skating at the Nepela Trophy! She has by far the highest skating level among the senior ladies so far this season. Is Wakaba recovering from injuries? I'm very surprised to see her so poorly prepared for a competition (Autumn Classic) and don't think she has...

    Dick Button's lament

I find Dick very insightful but it goes without saying that he completely lacks filter, and/or says things that in a disjointed fashion or do not make literal sense. Recently I was going through a Elena Sokolova phase. When she fell on her triple flip in the SP at 2004 Worlds, I remember...

U.S. Ladies [#21]: Wrapped Up with a Neat Little BOW

The judging in the short was absymal and inconsistent. Why are none of Sotskova's URs called, but Dabin Choi got (I believe) three URs? Dabin's program was a 60+ program (perhaps even 65+), but unfortunately, that's not how the program was scored. For US ladies, it wasn't so bad, the only...

Japanese figure skating 2017-18 season news & updates

ITA. People have been talking about younger Japanese skaters dethroning Satoko for awhile and I keep expecting it, but she continues to prove us wrong. In particular I was expecting Wakaba, Rika (Kihira), or Kaori to start challenging her in the near future. But Satoko is so consistent (as...

U.S. Ladies [#21]: Wrapped Up with a Neat Little BOW

I think it was a decent outing considering what the U.S. girls could do. Mariah had her usual mishap in the SP, but both Bradie and Mirai did quite well. Especially Bradie. Mirai should have been ahead of Wakaba (who is one of my favorite ladies this season). But considering it was a VERY poorly...

U.S. Ladies [#21]: Wrapped Up with a Neat Little BOW

I think Karen placing 4th is evidence that on a good day, American ladies are very capable of getting and deserving three spots. :p

U.S. Ladies [#21]: Wrapped Up with a Neat Little BOW

I am not sure sending Ashley to Worlds would do the US better in terms of retaining three spots, given her mediocre record this season. I predicted after US Nationals that if someone withdrew and she got the Worlds spot, she would decline it. Not surprisingly, she did. With that said, I believe...
