I think it's most likely her just trying to cheer herself up...but instead of doing it internally as most would, it fell out of her mouth at a really bad time.
I've always gotten the sense that Mirai was wrapped up in the fame side of things. I don't think she's a bad person for it, but I remember when she was younger you could sort of see that more than now. I didn't realize it was still lingering. :)
I wonder if it isn't because the judges feel like figure skating is under a magnifying glass during the Olympics. They know they have to go with the more technical skater, rather than performance...otherwise there will be some scandal. Just thinking out loud, but seems like a possibility.
Evgenia skated lovely and she should be proud of her skate. It was just a matter of one of them worked the skating rules to their advantage. If Evgenia had done the same(one wonders why a coach had one backload their program and the other not) then she would have won.
Agreed re: better than the previous olympic champs. Also Tara was definitely hated, and Michelle had her share of hate as well, although less. Figure Skating fans are catty af. :)
To each their own, but when you take into account she is only 15, she is effin amazing. So mature in her skating. She could use a little deeper edging, and maybe a little more time for some moves for more effect, but her spins...80% of them are very centered and her jumps are always on. She's...
It's nice that there is some honesty for a change. I'm sure he wants to protect Nathan to a degree, but I'd think you also have to protect your integrity behind your decisions. It doesn't mean you don't support your skater, but you call it what it is and how the decisions were made.
Ugh...I saw someone else complaining about this on facebook, and it's just ridiculous. So she saves her jumps for the end...and? Anyone else could do this as well. She's working the system, not "gaming" it. She's a beautiful skater...both Russian skaters are(this coming from a former crazy MK...
