You are really working yourself into quite a big lather about nothing.
Nobody needs to be "responsible" for the comments Alyssia's father made because there was nothing wrong with his comments. I quite sympathized when he said he might not have put his daughter into this sport if he'd known it...
Look, I saw several skaters asked about this issue, and they all just said they weren't thinking about it or didn't wish to comment. That was it. It was no big deal and it was in no way a traumatic experience for them to give those answers.
It is one hundred percent disingenuous to suggest...
You might consider that the many people who saw Dave Chappelle's routine "How Old is 15 Really?" roughly 13 years ago took it to heart and see it as a reason to be more empathetic towards others, rather than less. There is nothing noble about using something like that as an excuse to indulge...
Alyssa Liu being asked about it is not remotely the same. Alyssa is not being questioned like a criminal about her own wrongdoing, she's just being asked for her opinion. And the Liu family has been more than forthcoming with their opinions on social media, so clearly they feel comfortable...
Because figure skating is extraordinarily corrupt in a way most other sports aren't.
I don't have a lot of faith in the ISU or IOC, but I think this is a situation similar to the 2002 judging scandal in that the whole world has witnessed corruption far too appalling just to be swept under the...
This has nothing to do with whether or not to hold Valieva accountable for her doping. I hope she is held fully accountable, suspended and DQ'd - as well as her coaches and doctors and the Russian Olympic Committee.
This is being needlessly cruel to a kid by shaming, humiliating, and badgering...
Instead of sticking by her side and accompanying Valieva through the media mixed zone like a normal coach would, her coach was sending her through to practices all by herself with her hood over her head like a criminal. Disgraceful.
It looks like Valieva is now being escorted by two Olympic...
She's 15 is the good reason. She's a child.
The whole purpose of having children be Protected People is to withhold their identities so they won't be to be grilled, or shamed, publicly.
The same WADA Code that will punish her for the violation (despite her age) is also supposed to protect...
So Valieva would get a torch too, even though she's probably going to be DQ'd?
What about the person who comes in 4th place and will likely be moving up to medal position - no recognition for them in Beijing at all? 9 months from now, somebody will give them a medal after the whole world has...
In this case, I definitely think sympathy for Valieva's age and the extreme circumstances she is in should exempt her from all press conferences. Doping is a big deal, but press conferences are not. This is exactly where her being a "Protected Person" should come into play.
The media just...
This is all factually incorrect.
First of all, jurisdiction only means they are responsible for enforcing the WADA code. If they don't enforce it, they will be overruled by CAS and Russia will likely face additional Olympic sanctions in the future.
The WADA Code can be downloaded here...
RUSADA does not get to do whatever they want. The ISU and IOC's authority both supersede it, and the case they brought to CAS (along with WADA) to uphold Valieva's suspension at the Olympics would have been bulletproof had it not been for the "untimely reporting" of the results, as cited by CAS...
I have no idea why you would think a doping suspension would expire in 30 days. The suspension for a drug of this type is going to be 1-2 years.
The only reason Valieva is skating right now is because her results came back in the middle of the competition, and CAS ruled it wasn't fair that she...
