For real though, athletes make comebacks all the time. There are plenty of valid reasons to have mixed feelings about it but casting all these aspersions on their character is just weird.
I think people are over-estimating the political pull the Shibs are going to have with this comeback. They never had that much political pull to begin with even at their peak. They were always fighting the anti-sibling bias and their last season was somewhat precarious. H/D would’ve won that...
I don’t think the Shibs “owed” anyone a continued public connection to figure skating to “deserve” a chance to come out of retirement and skate competitively again. They did more than enough to represent the sport and bring in new fans when they were actively competing imo. This is a rather high...
I think we also can’t underestimate the impact of her injury in the Olympic season. The 1/6 layout may have become impossible after she sustained that. I don’t blame Eteri for wanting to focus on consistency with her previous content rather than upgrading, even if it didn’t work out for Evgenia...
Alexandra Stepanova may be the weakest skater in the competition in your opinion, yet the mistake that probably cost them the podium came from Bukin on the twizzles :shuffle:. They lost a level and a lot of GOE there.
I think immediately. The only one I could see them maybe keeping on the JGP another season is Shcherbakova, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if all 3 went senior right away.
