    Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

No, Kidman in Babygirl. Sorry, I thought people knew that.

    Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

In the last couple of weeks, I saw Anora, Babygirl, and The Substance--all featuring leading female characters with strong feminist under/over tones. I liked them all to varying degrees. I think Anora is the best of the bunch, but I actually think Kidman gave the best performance. My favourite...

There will be a new Sense and Sensibility starring that woman from that boring Crows movie? Also, I could not get into Normal People. Old man rant: NO WAY will this match the quality of the Ang Lee film. Waste of time.

Finally got around to watching Challengers. An adult romp that is slick, well shot, fabulously scored, wonderfully performed, and just a blast. Makes me want Luca Guadagnino direct a figure skating movie.

The tipping dilemma in the US?

I think the cuisine matters, so you got to compare an Italian restaurant in Milano with an Italian restaurant in, say, NYC. Is a sushi restaurant in Rome gonna have better and more knowledgeable staff than a sushi restaurant in, say, the Bay Area? I have visited my fair share of coffeeshops...

The Dance Hall 12: Boston Tea Dance Party

I liked it. Better than robots, take five and Annie Lennox.

The tipping dilemma in the US?

When I get coffee, I do custom and do 55 cents because it's easier to type. If I go to a bakery or donut shop where the food is already premade, I don’t tip. Dine in, 20 percent. Take out, 10-15 percent. I don’t get things delivered. I pick up everything. Fast food? Do I eat fast food, hmm, I...

    Fall 2024-Summer 2025 New/Returning/Streaming/TV Shows

I finished the second and third seasons of Abbott Elementary, now just one season behind. So consistently funny and heartwarming. Ava going to Harvard was friggin hilarious.

    Fall 2024-Summer 2025 New/Returning/Streaming/TV Shows

Watched Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Just wonderful, funny and sad and satisfying. Loved seeing everyone again, more lived in and wise. The best of the sequels and not too far behind the iconic original.

Finally watched Wicked. Thought it was terrific, both Cynthia and Arianna are wonderful. Their dance at the club in the middle of the movie is a bit of a cinematic hallmark. Can’t wait for Part 2!

    Fall 2024-Summer 2025 New/Returning/Streaming/TV Shows

The Apple Shows I have enjoyed are Shrinking, The Morning Show, Severance, Little America, Pachinko, Ted Lasso and Presumed Innocent. I think their shows are significantly better than their movies.

    Fall 2024-Summer 2025 New/Returning/Streaming/TV Shows

The first episode was the weakest one, IMO. The acting gets better, the large cast gets more developed, and the writing improves.

    Fall 2024-Summer 2025 New/Returning/Streaming/TV Shows

North of North is a Canadian show that I get on CBC Gem. But I also think it's on Netflix (but I don't currently have Netflix)?

The Morning Show was a terrific show with a stacked cast. North of North is absolutely adorable.

    Shibutani Return for Olympic Season

I think it depends. Entertainment these days is so siloed. My podcasts that I listen to are more likely to have the Shibs over, say, Adam, even though I suspect people in this forum believe Adam is more widely known.
