Another excellent JGP for Canadian pairs. Kemp/Elizarov with their second win in 2 weeks and a new set of PBs become the first JGPF qualifiers. Quattrochi/Lacasse in their first international and after only a few months together won bronze, and Dion/Côté, just up from novice, finished 6th in...
I hope Keegan's return pushes the other guys in a good way. The men's event at the last couple of Canadians has been dire, as has been their skating internationally for the most part.
Silver medal for Grayson in Riga in a strong field, and he resets his PBs by a LOT - 143 in the free, 221.7 total. His best previous finish in a JGP was 7th at both his events last year.
I've been a fan of Kemp and Elizarov since they were novices, and it's great to see how they're developing. PBs in both segments in Riga, and they're adding both difficulty of elements (strategically) and complexity/maturity of choreography and performance.
It says it's sold out (surprise-not). That's about the only info on the ticket site in English.
I would like to have gone. It would actually have been the easiest Challenger for me to get to, and the timing is good. Plus they have pairs. But with the numbers of Japanese fans and the small...
I signed up for the pre-sale, and will register an account in advance - but I don't know if I want to be up at 1am to buy. I haven't been to a worlds in a long time. Other than the airfare, it will be quite a bit cheaper than going to worlds in NA - and Prague's a great city.
This is the first time in many years they haven't had a show in Victoria. I'd been going to Vancouver to take Rosaleen for many years, and though I'm not myself big on shows, I'd probably have gone to the Victoria one if it had happened. (we do have Cirque du Soleil's Crystal in town at the...
I was in a chat with my Peruvian daughter about something unrelated as he was speaking in Spanish, and mentioned the shout-out to his diocese of Chiclayo (one of her current projects is in Chiclayo, and she was just there). I've been thinking of him as the first Peruvian pope even more than...
I'd much rather go to an event in Gatineau than Kanata (although I do have a fond memory of my mom climbing - with some assistance - over a chain link fence to get to the bus stop on her 85th birthday at SCI in 2008. We'd thought we'd taken a short cut).
Ummm. . .Gatineau is part of the national capital region. When I worked there, I biked from my apartment in Ottawa to my job in Gatineau in 20 minutes. One flies into Ottawa to go to Gatineau.
The news release says that the Challenge is moving to the West Coast. Calgarians may be as surprised as I was that it's now coastal. I guess I can just take the ferry there.
Thanks. That's a very good video. There aren't any outdoor rinks in my part of the country, but the prohibition of SKATING on public ice rinks (in the guise of a concern for safety) is appalling. I wasn't aware that there were such rules anywhere. (can't lift a foot more than 4" off the ice...
The only time I've been to Saskatoon was for Canadians in 2009 (I think), but I remember that transit was pretty easy to the arena. Can't remember where we stayed, though - it wasn't downtown. Won't be going this time - other travel priorities in the fall.
I worked for a couple of years in Gatineau before it was Gatineau (in Hull). It was mind-boggling to me, normally living on Vancouver Island where the nearest province is about 1000km and a 2 hour ferry ride away, that I was living in one province and biking to work in another in about 20...
Mixed results in the SP for the two junior pairs at the Bavarian Open - Kemp/Elizarov in first with a new PB of 60.01; Ariano Kent/Laliberte-Laurent in 7th with 48.47 and 2 deductions. Hope they both have good FPs for confidence going into Junior Worlds (where I will be able to watch live).
