I figure that she figures she doesn't really need it. That might just change, however.
I don't necessarily want Russian teeniebots neither, but with Mao Shimada, armed with a consistent 3Axel and a creditable 4toe, going senior after Cortina, I think the other ladies know they'll have to step...
Since Isabeau Levito is a Jersey Girl, I'm (STILL) hoping Skate America makes a 20-year reprise appearance in Atlantic City!!
Reprise appearances in Hartford, CT, or Reading, PA, would make me happy also!
Your thoughts...
I hope that this current group of Japanese ladies work hard during the pre-Olympic off season to either introduce or reintroduce some 3Axels and quads come this Fall.
Kaori's 2Axel is so big and effortless that it boggles my mind that she hasn't mastered a triple yet. I know she's worked on it...
I'd say it was 25 years ago when we had this level of depth:
Michelle Kwan won US Nationals and Worlds.
Sarah Hughes was US bronze medallist and finished 5th at Worlds
Angela Nikodinov was US pewter medallist, won Four Continents, and competed at Worlds (forget whether she finished top 10)...
I'm probably in the minority here, but I really thought Hasse and Volodin had and should've had it -- even with their sketchy closing lift. IMO, this was less glaring than the more numerous and more visible (to my eye, anyway) little errors that Miura & Kihara had -- particularly that second...
I think I'm w/you on this one. Unless Isabeau manages to win a medal in Boston (highly doubt it, to be honest), I think she and Elyce will be on even footing in the Fall.
Your thoughts...
I'm sure Elyce and her team knew how crucial it was to medal here if she was to remain in the conversation for an Olympic spot. Given her Grand Prix and Nationals showings I was very nervous for her and predicted she'd crumble again under the pressure. Great for her for keeping it together...
Hopefully ISU YouTube allows us to watch the events more than 48 hours after they happen! Peacock has certainly been stingy in this regard! (And yes, the Jr. Worlds tiles are gone now. I had them saved among "My Stuff.")
Your thoughts...
I'd be interested in seeing whether Samodelkina can somehow break into the top 10 in Boston after her solid performances here. I love her ice coverage and the quick, little transitions after her jump landings. All in all she's really matured stylistically from when I first watched her as a...
RE: Mone Chiba -- The second she looks to me to be on the cusp of reaching that highest echelon, gravity brings her back down to Earth.
I really thought she'd medal -- even stealthily challenge Kaori and Loena for the title! -- at Worlds last year after finishing 2nd at Japanese Nationals and...
If Jimmy Ma's pleasant surprise wasn't enough, we have Bradie Tennell also scoring some major Body of Work points here! Surely she had to have known how crucial it was to medal here (amidst quite a deep field!), yet she looked calmer here than she has all season. Her dream of a 2nd Olympic...
I was nervous as Hades watching Jimmy -- praying that it wouldn't be Witchita all over again. To be honest, I thought he'd end up painfuly close, but no cigar to the podium. Couldn't be more thrilled for him!
Watching Nationals this Olympiad I always had him in the mix for the top 3 US men...
Just out of curiosity (and at the risk of getting ahead of myself): is the USFSA bound somehow to abide by the order of its Alternates List? Camden is 1st alternate, while Jimmy is 3rd, BUT Camden's score here is hard pressed to make the FS cut at Worlds.
While I don't see her medalling here, I would love to see how Bradie Tennell would fare if she were to finally execute her FS without glaring errors. I think the international judges are still waiting for her to deliver this season. I specifically remember that had she not popped her second...
