And whether the haters want to admit it or not, Ilia is one of the skaters the ticket buyers came to see....not just b/c of the predicted result, but b/c he's also a great performer. And those gala tix were more expensive (at each price level) than the competitive events.
I hope his performance in the TE final, where his skate clinched the gold for the U.S., won't be forgotten in the aftermath of the individual. Not a 7-quad program but he came through and did what was needed for the team (and the same skate would have won individual gold :wuzrobbed). I hope the...
His planned program content had 4A listed. Of course, skaters don't always do exactly what their plan says, but if it was listed, i'm pretty sure that was the intention going in.
If he consciously was planning to do a 3A on the approach, I don't think he would have popped it. His vertical leap...
And he's had a pretty good career in show skating and doing choreo. He's had a better career than some Oly medalists.
Ilia is a great performer. We've seen that in his gala programs, like the NF number and To Build a Home at Worlds last year. And he choreos most of them himself. He's talked...
They had a small error on their opening stationary lift. It got called L2, a loss of about 2 points (GOE also lower than usual) and they lost the FD to Piper and Paul. Piper and Paul lost overall due to their score in the RD. IIRC, G/P had some level issues in the RD. I think the judging in...
I don't remember that but i'm only semi-conscious right now. They fell on their spin at the 2018 Olys, is that what you are thinking of? They finished 9th. I'm not sure how that is relevant here though, since the original comment in this discussion claimed they've won with a fall two or more...
They had a fall in their 2023 Worlds FD, which was not on an element and received the required deduction. They did not fall at any other Worlds. They had a fall in their RD at 2024 SA and finished 2nd overall to F/G.
Not really an equivalence, though. Unless I missed something, C/B have not spoken publicly about their friendship with Nik since the allegations/suspension. Yes, he was (presumably) at their wedding with Laurence but I don't recall him in any pics they shared. They haven't defended him, blamed...
I have no objection to Ilia splitting the TE given the schedule. What i object to is trying something that has already been unsuccessful this season to effectively prioritize himself over his teammates. As I said upthread, he can try it at Worlds, when only he bears the consequences of his...
Someone needs to talk him out of it. He can do it at Worlds. The TE is not a throwaway event and he won't be able to erase a 3rd place in the standings like he did at the GPF.
I think there was a list of TE captains on the ISU event site? I remember seeing lists of TE "captains" somewhere. Maybe USFS didn't want to confuse people since they had announced the overall team captain.
I think Evan was only team captain in 2018? I thought Jason was captain in 2022? C/B were co-captains of the team for the TE in 2022, but TE and overall team have different captains at least in past Olys. IIRC, the captains for the 2018 TE were Alexa K and Alex Shib.
