Why do people consider Irina Slutskaya a held up skater?

Irina and underrotated jumps? Yeah, on the most difficult jump combinations that other skaters at that time didn't even try. Other than that, total BS...

Why do people consider Irina Slutskaya a held up skater?

I am not necessarily saying that Suguri was the better quality skater but I think you are overrating Arakawa compared to Suguri. Arakawa had her problems with posture, extension and jump technique as well. Look at her camel spin positions -> awful. Her layback, despite a good arch, was lacking...

    Most Controversial Judging Decisions Ever

You mean 2001 or 2000? The FS judging of S/P in 2001 I didn't even find THAT bad :slinkaway...it was in 2000 where S/P got some ridiculous marks and placements from the US and CAN judges in the FS...:yikes:

Why do people consider Irina Slutskaya a held up skater?

That is one of the best examples against the theory that Irina was always held up. I agree that she had the 3rd best LP in Nagano.

    Vaytsekhovskaya's interview with Irina Slutskaya

Why don't you answer my question first? Incorrect. She only says what her mum told her. She doesn't admit any telegraphing herself. And even if she did, it would be mostly irrelevant for discussing a particular free skate.

    Vaytsekhovskaya's interview with Irina Slutskaya

Euros didn't have three rounds in some years and the qualy points/marks didn't count? Somehow I remember differently ;) Thanks, at least you can admit that ;) The second salchow clearly wasn't telegraphed, either.

    Vaytsekhovskaya's interview with Irina Slutskaya

To say that Slutskaya's skating "does not hold up well AT ALL with IJS eyes", given that Slustkaya won the first Worlds that was used under that system and given that she was very successful also in plenty of other figure skating competition under that judging system is a, to put it nicely...

    Vaytsekhovskaya's interview with Irina Slutskaya

Yeah, your assessment sounds very reasonable and realistic

    Vaytsekhovskaya's interview with Irina Slutskaya

You claim that her free skate at SLC "was one of her worst" but you don't even remember if she had a step-out or not...somehow your opinion doesn't sound very concinving to me :p

    Categories of Program Components

The significant error is a term that is not used in relation to the program components from what I've read so they are not necessarily messing that up. Obviously a wrong takeoff edge doesn't impact the continuity / fludity of the composition.

Which he shouldn't have gotten even in that case...

It's hard to tell if you are serious or not so I'm asking you: Are you serious or not?

Harding: 1985 US Olympic Festival SP Vs. Ito: 1985 NHK SP, who wins?

Weren't there supposed to be least *some* steps preceding the solo double jump even in 1985? Harding had some easy steps, Ito had absolutely ZERO of them before her double lutz. Is a 3flip-2loop really harder than 2loop-3loop? I'd say that is at least debatable.

ISU rules changes proposals & reaction

Please don't remind us. His "visions" most of the times were horrible. I totally disagree that he was a particularly muscial or artistical skater but then I don't see how that is in any way relevant for this thread :p
